    About the School of Trades & Skills

    The School of Trades & Skills is dedicated to creating the next generation of skilled trades workers. Working closely with industry, the School provides learners with education in a variety of trades and apprenticeships using the newest equipment. The School is also home to the Olds College Brewery. Fields of study offered within the School of Trades & Skills include: Brewmaster and Brewery Operations, Hospitality and Tourism, Trades, Apprenticeships & Pre-Employment, Transitional Employment Program, and Farrier Science.

    The Opportunity

    Olds College is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Instructor in its Agriculture Equipment Technician and Heavy Equipment Technician programs on the Olds College campus, including:

  • Apprenticeship training within the Agricultural Equipment Technician program
  • Apprenticeship training within the Heavy Equipment Technician program
  • Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Certificate and Diploma programs
  • Pre-employment Heavy Equipment Technician program
  • As an Instructor in the Agriculture Equipment Technician and Heavy Equipment programs, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and academic support to students pursuing careers in the agriculture and heavy equipment industry. The role requires a passion for teaching, the ability to engage diverse learners, and a commitment to promoting safety and best practices in the field.

    Key Job Functions:

  • Design and develop curriculum materials, lesson plans, and learning activities that align with the program's objectives and industry standards. Incorporate current trends, case studies, and real-world examples to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and conduct practical sessions to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills relevant to the program. Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies to accommodate learning for students from various cultures, ages and backgrounds. The use of a learning management system along with instructional technology is essential.
  • Develop and administer assessments, assignments, and examinations to evaluate students' understanding of course content and their ability to apply concepts in real-world scenarios. Provide timely feedback and support to help students achieve academic success and professional development.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators, faculty members, and administrative staff to ensure the effective implementation of the hospitality and tourism management curriculum. Assist with program evaluation, accreditation processes, and student recruitment initiatives as needed.
  • Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • An Agricultural Equipment Technician Journeyperson's certification is preferred. A Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson's certification will also be considered.
  • A minimum of five years' experience with a strong knowledge of farm related machinery and an established industry network
  • Prior experience in an educational setting is an asset, but not required
  • Professional and reliable
  • Team player and highly adaptive to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Engaging interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to deal professionally with students and staff. In particular, you must be able to effectively work with students to facilitate and assess their learning with inclusive teaching practices.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at once.
  • A thorough understanding of diverse learner needs, and academic, and cultural backgrounds of students.
  • Comfortable with technology and the use of relevant software and learning management systems.
  • Commitment to inspire learner motivation and achievement.
  • Conditions of Employment:

  • Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.
  • This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.
