Highlights of the job

We are hiring a full time, permanent Manager, Operations Network & Security position working out of Edmonton, Alberta. This role reports to the Senior Manager, OT Systems & Security.

In this position, you will be accountable for the Operations Network & Security (ONS) team and its functions.

You will be accountable for the management of EPCOR Electricity's Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), SCADA network and computing infrastructure including both datacenter and substation components, IT/OT integrations and associated infrastructure required to deliver safe, efficient and reliable electricity to our customers.

As the ONS Manager, you will also ensure the security of the Electricity Operations' control systems and that AESO Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements are met.

This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Providing input to the Systems & Security plans and directions, ensuring an appropriate understanding of the Electricity Operations and System Operations strategies throughout the team and ongoing, effective positioning with other teams.
  • Managing and maintaining a diverse team of frontline employees and contractors, which includes work planning, recruitment, retention and development.
  • Strategically planning, identifying and completing budget and regulatory requirements for provision of maintenance and technology upgrades and system improvements.
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate technical KPIs, ensuring the delivery of optimal results in line with short and long term plans.
  • Working cross functionally with other EPCOR IT and OT groups in areas of architecture, policy, cyber security and procurement.
  • Analyzing and identifying issues affecting operational performance and establishing initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Developing and revising operational procedures and processes.
  • Ensuring security systems are monitored and maintained to protect the SCADA/operational computing and communications infrastructure from malicious attacks and/or unintended changes.
  • Responsible to ensure systems are maintained and replaced/repaired where required.
  • As a CIP Compliance Lead, maintaining regulatory compliance for all operational and scheduled tasks within the team, including required reviews, selfcertifications and audits.
  • Developing and nurturing a customer focused, learning environment that focuses on safety, accountability and high performance for the team.
  • Ensuring adequate design, provisioning, monitoring, managing, maintaining, management of change and troubleshooting of:
  • MPLS and core networks, switches and routers, firewalls, ports and services
  • Enterprise Computing Infrastructure (ECI)
  • Application and infrastructure performance monitoring and alerting
  • Cyber security tools and systems
  • Information classification, security testing, security incident response including forensics and disaster recovery
  • Access and identity management
What's required to be successful

  • Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems Technology degree.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing IT or OT teams.
  • Knowledge of securing/supporting OMS/DMS, SCADA or other realtime production systems is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with regulatory requirements such as ARS/NERC CIP standards is an asset.
  • Additional securityrelated training or certifications (CISSP, CISM, CISA) are an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with ITIL/ITSM best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership maturity and ability to develop talent.
  • Network, computing and storage troubleshooting techniques.
  • Data centre management experience.
  • Experience managing and analyzing data from system event logs, SIEM logs, firewall rules, and baseline reporting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong reporting and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in business writing for the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Effective presentation skills to communicate with senior or executive management levels.
  • Experience with business and process analysis.
