    Water Resources Engineer – Mid Level - Calgary, Canada - Barr Engineering Co.

    Summary: The person in this position will work on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources/civil engineering and related technical assignments. Project work may include:

    1. Hydrologic analysis for rural and urban settings
    2. Hydraulic analysis and design related to rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures
    3. Watershed management
    4. Impact assessments
    5. Natural channel design
    6. Working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials

    Assignments may also include leading project teams with a variety of technical backgrounds and disciplines. The work or training may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another Barr office.

    Minimum Qualifications:


    B.Sc. in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields with a focus on water resources

    5 years of water resources engineering consulting experience

    Project management and/or task management experience

    Experience with various water resources challenges such as:

    1. Precipitation and flooding data analysis
    2. Urban and rural hydrologic analysis
    3. Open channel and pipe flow analysis
    4. Hydraulic structures
    5. Bank stabilization and stream restoration
    6. Flood modeling and mapping
    7. Dam break analysis
    8. Dam and levee analysis and design

    Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and software commonly used in the industry. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, GIS, and CADD software. Experience with budget, scope, and/or proposal development. Familiarity with water resources data collection methodologies. Ability to manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scopes. Experience providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff on projects. P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEG. Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering and Environmental Science Canada Ltd., now or in the future. Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

    Preferred Qualifications:


    M.Sc. or PhD degree(s) in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields

    6+ years of water resources engineering consulting experience

    Eligibility for registration with APEGS and EGBC

    Experience with client management and business development

    Experience with:

    1. GIS
    2. CADD
    3. Hydrologic modeling and 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic modeling software
    4. Water quality modeling
    5. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling tools
    6. Coastal engineering and calculations such as wave analysis and coastal shoreline protection design
    7. Climate change analyses and modeling
    8. Strong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topics
    9. Experience working with the City of Calgary, other Alberta municipalities, municipal districts, and/or other Alberta or provincial public entities
    10. Experience with site development design and plans, specifications, and contract documents
    11. Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience

    A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, office.

    NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting and moving equipment. Safety and other training will be provided. Drug screening and participating in a random drug screening program will be required to work for some clients. #LI-Hybrid
