Contract - 6 months +
Greater Toronto Area

Role Summary:
As the Principal AWS Cloud Architect within our client's organization, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our cloud infrastructure strategy. Your primary responsibilities will include conceptualizing and defining cloud solutions, establishing governance frameworks, and leading cloud migration initiatives. Collaborating closely with various stakeholders, you will ensure alignment with enterprise objectives and drive the delivery of high-value solutions. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership, mentorship, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our architectural practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and define cloud solutions, processes, and controls, including control tower and landing zone configurations.
2. Establish a comprehensive cloud governance framework to standardize practices and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
3. Lead the development of cloud solution roadmaps and architectures in alignment with enterprise objectives.
4. Review and ensure adherence to established cloud governance practices within delivery teams.
5. Drive the cloud migration roadmap for transitioning on-premises applications to the cloud, considering factors such as cost, architecture, and operating models.
6. Collaborate with business, IT stakeholders, security, and project management teams to prioritize and deliver value.
7. Deliver solutions that advance our overall architecture journey and align with the organization's IT strategy.
8. Ensure compliance with standards, design approaches, and governance protocols.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Solutions and Assurance:
Create and design cloud solutions for projects, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and objectives.
Produce design options with associated costs, benefits, and risks to facilitate investment decisions.
Collaborate with stakeholders to balance long-term and short-term goals and ensure business outcomes are met.
Maintain the integrity of end-to-end cloud solutions, including transition states to achieve target objectives.
Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences effectively.
Identify solution debt incurred during transition phases and address them accordingly.
Mitigate potential risks and challenges associated with proposed solutions.
Participate in post-implementation reviews and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
2. Technical Leadership:
Stay updated on technological developments in public clouds (AWS, Azure) and evaluate their alignment with the company's architecture.
Recommend tools, frameworks, and platforms to support cloud service development and deployment.
Define and enforce cloud best practices and standards within project solutions.
Conduct architecture reviews to ensure compliance with established principles and guidelines.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members as needed.
3. Design Community Membership:
Contribute to the Solution Architecture community to enhance design practices.
Develop technical skills to support emerging technology trends and organizational needs.
Problem Solving:
Solve project-based problems in line with policy, process, and guidelines, applying technical expertise.
Address challenges faced by project or feature teams, recommending design solutions or ideas.
Escalate problems according to guidelines.
Change:
Recommend change based on expertise and analysis, adapting to evolving requirements.
Take personal initiative in adapting to change.
External Interaction:
Maintain liaison with suppliers and technology sources to stay updated on specialist knowledge.
Key Capabilities:
- Proven experience in architecting end-to-end cloud solutions for enterprises.
- Expertise in AWS public cloud
Familiarity with data center infrastructure, networking, and related technologies.
- Certification in AWS
Strong understanding of end-to-end project lifecycle methodologies, primarily agile.
Financial acumen to support business case development and inform design decisions.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance.
Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
