    Description

    Job Description:

    • Location: 669 Howe Street, Vancouver
    • Work Model: Hybrid model with a mix of office and work from home
    • Employment Type: Full-time temporary/contract

    Reporting to the manager of investigations, the role of the investigator involves direct responsibility for managing complex cases related to the College's complaints and discipline processes under the Health Professions Act (HPA). The investigator conducts off-site visits with the manager to ensure physicians are complying with imposed limits and conditions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage serious complaint and investigation files with attention to detail, analysis, and initiation of appropriate investigative steps
    • Conduct office visits and interviews to verify physician compliance and investigate alleged breaches
    • Prepare and present investigative reports to senior management and the Inquiry Committee
    • Produce various legal documents in compliance with College procedures
    • Conduct research, analyze case facts, and cite legal authority as needed
    • Assist in policy development and implementation to improve operational efficiency
    • Engage with senior management, College Board, and committees on investigation matters
    • Participate in legal and internal meetings
    • Undertake other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 5 years' investigative experience in a legal setting, ideally in self-regulatory or administrative law
    • Experience in decision writing and familiarity with legal and medical terminology
    • Proficient in administrative law principles and procedural fairness
    • Strong writing skills, including legal drafting and editing
    • Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Quicklaw
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
