Department Information:


The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services.

INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies.

INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.


Job Information:


The Department of Infrastructure is highly decentralized in the delivery of its programs and services and is responsible for territory-wide government programs such as the operation and maintenance of public buildings and transportation infrastructure and systems, project management, facilities planning, design and technical support services, environmental assessment and remediation, property management, procurement shared services, information technology, information management, disposal of surplus property and goods motor vehicle and mechanical/electrical regulatory services and fleet management.


You will assist in the management of projects within the budgetary authority assigned, as well as be part of various teams assembled to meet the needs of specific highway, bridge and culvert maintenance, rehabilitation and infrastructure construction projects.

You will be a team member responsible for the planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of bridges, culverts, marine facilities and other transportation related structures.

You will be responsible for managing projects from development to construction stage for design and construction projects. You will manage projects while compying with governing authorities and perform associate project related tasks. Your knowledge of project management of bridges, culverts and other transportation structures will be required.


Typically attained by a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 3 years' experience and eligibility for professional registration with Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG); or, Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 6 years' experience; or, Minimum of 10 years of construction supervision experience.

Experience must be relevant and progressive.
