Community Wellbeing Nurse Specialist – Family HealthFull-time Position
The Approaches to Community Wellbeing is a regional resource to 31 First Nations communities. Approaches to Community Wellbeing provides expertise, support, services, and programming in public
health to the region. The program also supports communities in the development, implementation, and
monitoring of their own Approaches to Community Wellbeing.
The Raising our Children section of the model includes Family Health, Youth Development, and Building
The Nurse will work with the Family Health team of Raising our Children to provide
expertise around maternal, newborn, and child health. The role of the Nurse will be to support community-based workers and to enhance community health services.
The Community Wellbeing Nurse Specialist – Family Health is directly accountable to the Raising our
Children Manager.
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing BScN from an accredited University with identifiable
community health nursing content
health programs
population level health planning
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing programs and community-wide based initiatives
using the current knowledge of practices and trends related to the field of public health.
health promotion activities for Raising our Children.
Support and build capacity of community-based family health workers through:
d) Conducting training and workshops
Provide health education to prenatal and new mothers residing at the hostels.
Provide clinical expertise to the Raising our Children team and to community health care
Establish and maintain close working relationships with each First Nation community's
leadership and health staff in order to build capacity and promote awareness and self-determination within family health programming and services.
Facilitate community development and community mobilization.Provide orientation of SLFNHA's Approaches to Community Wellbeing, and Raising our
Children team to primary health care providers and facilitate continued learning opportunities
regarding reproductive health, maternal-newborn health, and child health.
Advocate for clients and communities to enhance health determinants:
b) Conduct quality control surveillance on data management and systems operations in
conjunction with the Raising our Children Manager, Data Clerks, and Epidemiologist.
