    Geotechnical Lab Technician / Associate Engineer Job Posting

    We are seeking a detail-oriented Geotechnical Lab Technician or Associate Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Geotechnical Innovation. Key responsibilities include performing various laboratory tests on soil and rocks, as well as assisting with R&D projects.

    Key Position Functions: The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties related to laboratory testing on soil and rock with the supervision of a Professional Engineer.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Adhering to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing.
    • Conducting hazard assessments as necessary.
    • Preparing samples for laboratory tests, including cutting, sanding, and photographing.
    • Performing various laboratory tests on soil and rocks, such as the Standard Triaxial Test, Unconfined Compression Test, Brazilian Indirect Tensile Test, and Constant Mean Stress Test.
    • Conducting fluid tests such as Steady-state Permeability Test.
    • Promptly recording and uploading test data.
    • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment.
    • Collaborating with the manager to develop and implement new testing procedures.
    • Reporting all incidents and accidents immediately.
    • Ensuring the laboratory remains clean and well-organized.
    • Occasional travel to client sites.
    • Occasional requirement to work overtime and on weekends

    Qualifications:

    • A diploma or degree in engineering or a scientific field.
    • Member in Training such as EIT, GIT, TT. or professional designation like CET. would be an asset.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Proficiency in operating various cutting equipment, such as table saws.
    • Experience in a geotechnical laboratory environment is preferred.
    • Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics is advantageous.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, listening and written).
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
    • A strong inclination towards learning and continuous improvement.
    • Enthusiastic with a desire to learn and achieve outstanding performance.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Willingness to occasionally travel to the field.
    • A valid driver's license.
