Directional Driller / Locator

We are looking for a Drilling Operator and Locator. Applicants must provide an up-to-date resume and be prepared to supply job references upon interview.
The Directional Driller will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of specialized drilling equipment, working in collaboration with the drilling locator to safely and accurately complete underground utility installations.
What you will do
- Work under the direction of site supervisor and/or foreman.
- Assist in the daily preparation and planning of required work activities and supporting materials to maximize efficiency.
- Working in collaboration with driller/locator to survey area and thoroughly review utility locates and detailed engineering designs to plan a safe bore path in compliance with offset, depth and material requirements and specifications.
- Must be capable to direct hydro vac truck operator(s) to identify daylighting locations as part of drill path preparation if not already prearranged.
- Safely and securely load, transport, and unload directional drill equipment, materials and tools
- Prepare a safe working area through correct setup of traffic control signage, barrels, and cones in accordance to approved Traffic Control Plans.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations including the wearing of personal protective equipment.
- Prepare drill equipment according to ground conditions.
- Locator and Drill Operator to remain in constant communication to safely and precisely steer bore head, maintaining required distance from underground utilities and structures, along with required depth and road offsets per permit.
- Use of mathematical and analytical skills to direct drill head to precisely meet target points.
- Pull back of 1 or more conduit through bore path, sealing and labelling ends in preparation for downstream trades.
- Document and report accurate measurements and detailed locations of all completed drill work
- Conduct daily inspection, maintenance and cleaning of drill equipment, and updating of equipment maintenance log books
- Stay up to date on drilling technologies and best practices to maximize effectiveness on job site.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Drill Operator: Minimum 2 years of experience working as a directional driller using Ditch Witch or Vermeer drills is a requirement of minimum drill size of 20x22 or 24x40
- Drill Locator: Experience with Falcon F5 locating system
- Ability to interchange as drill operator or as a drill locator is a strong asset
- AZ or AZR driver's license required for operation of bore truck with clean driver's abstract
- Detailed knowledge in the safe and proper operation of drill equipment, tools, and techniques, specializing in Vermeer or Ditch Witch equipment is a requirement
- Exceptional proficiency with reading utility locates and engineering design plans.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written English communication skills.
- Strong work ethic to and integrity is a mandatory expectation of this role
- Strong interpersonal skills, working collaboratively with team members and construction crews to maintain a positive working environment for all.
- Must be comfortable to work in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel to different job sites as required
