Founded in 1968, Gateway Mechanical is a privately owned company that has established itself as a leader in the commercial and industrial refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning industry (HVACR).

Attending to 40,000+ service calls per year, Gateway is the largest HVAC & Refrigeration service provider in Western Canada.

Our model is comprised of local branch teams with fully qualified personnel representing HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing/gas fitting, sheet metal and electrical trades.

These teams are supported by centers of excellence including professional engineers and project managers which ensures Gateway's full technical capability is available for every project and service call.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and nonmandatory training, continuing education, and certifications/licensing/accreditations. This includes oversight of the training materials contained in the learning management system, working with internal process owners to ensure training is current and accurate at all times.
  • Ensure HRIS system accuracy related to employment changes including salary changes, leaves, promotions, layoffs, resignations, terminations and transfers; ensuring they adhere to company policy and all supporting information is stored in a centralized location.
  • Support labour relations activities by tracking changes to CBAs and communicating changes.
  • Oversee and ensure the timely communication of employee, organizational, and other changes related to the attraction, retention, and engagement of team members.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide recommendations on areas to improve.
  • Update, audit, benchmark, and develop organizational policies and procedures.
  • Advise and support managers on the interpretation and administration of policies, programs, collective agreements, and best practices.
  • Manage and maintain the employee HRIS (Dayforce) including the configuration of workflows and active modules.
  • Analyze Dayforce dashboards and provide analysis on Gateway HR metrics such as turnover, retention, internal promotions, and days to fill.
  • Develop new and maintain existing external HR partnerships across the provinces such as trades schools, postsecondary institutions, training providers, notforprofit organizations, unions and other sources of new talent;
  • Update HR & Safety polices as required, while staying up to date on industry and legislative standards
  • Employee benefits and RRSP administration
  • Act as an ambassador for Gateway Mechanical Services in all dealings with the public, management and team members.
  • Promote and assist with Employee Engagement activities and events across all Regions within Gateway.
  • Other required duties may be assigned that fall within the parameters of the primary responsibility of the position.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management;
  • 25 years' Human Resources experience required;
  • CPHR designation or actively pursuing the designation is an asset;
  • Previous experience with Ceridian Dayforce or applicant tracking or HRIS system is an asset;
  • Experience in union environments and understanding of collective agreements;
  • Strong knowledge of multiprovince employment legislation;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Experience with developing efficiencies within processes and systems;
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and manage multiple tasks in a fastpaced environment;
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
