    Reporting to the Forest Area Manager, the Wildfire Management Specialist is a seasoned professional responsible for advancing wildfire mitigation, response, and preparedness within the Edson/Hinton and High level Forest Area and Rocky Mountain House.

    Through strategic collaboration with stakeholders, this role-plays a pivotal part in shaping landscape-level forest and land management strategies. Expertise in wildfire behavior facilitates real-time fire analysis and informed decision-making.

    The specialist also contributes to fuel management, operational wildfire efforts, and comprehensive wildfire management planning, solidifying their role as a cornerstone in ecosystem protection.

    As the Wildfire Management Specialist, you will:
    Collaborate with stakeholders to create effective wildfire management strategies aligned with landscape objectives.
    Integrate fire considerations into long-term planning, minimizing potential losses.
    Review and incorporate wildfire concerns into forest harvest and management plans.
    Assess and manage active wildfires, offering fire behavior predictions and expertise in incident management.
    Contribute to fire suppression and collaborate across agencies.
    Support fuel management goals and prescribed burn programs.
    Maintain fuel inventory, identify wildland fire opportunities, and contribute to FireSmart initiatives.
    Lead landscape fire assessments, integrating wildfire knowledge into planning.
    Develop and maintain the Piece River Forest Area Wildfire Management Plan.

    Integrate landscape planning at an operational level with the GOA land managers, timber stakeholders and other industrial users within the Forest Area.

    Integrate wildfire components into regional plans while maintaining a values-at-risk inventory.

    Make a lasting impact as a Wildfire Management Specialist, utilizing your expertise to ensure resilient ecosystems and valuable resources for generations to come.

    Considers the changing environment, recognizing the work impacting a vast network of stakeholders.

    The minimum requirement for Wildfire Management Specialist role is related natural sciences degree (4 years) plus four (4) years of related experience.

    Class 5 Driver's License
    Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals
    Strong mediation, problem-solving, and multitasking skills to identify wildfire risks and apply fire behavior understanding for effective mitigation.


    Assets:
    Familiarity with forest management policy, legislation, and administration or experience with fire integration into forest and land management planningType 2 incident management experience to support wildfire operations will be considered an asset
    Advanced fire behavior training and fire behavior analyst experience, encompassing wildfire behavior knowledge and complex scientific principles application
    Proficiency in GIS systems and ArcView
    Analytical abilities and knowledge of decision support tools such as SFMS, WTR, FIRES, FBP 97, BEHAVE, Prometheus.
    This is a full-time, permanent opportunity located in Edson/Hinton and High level and Rocky Mountain House.

    This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM, 36.In your resume include dates (including months and years) associated with all education and work experience.

    Also, please indicate whether your work experience is casual, part-time or full-time. Assistant (PT three 8 hrs. shifts/week).
