Working for the Department/Faculty
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is among the top ECE Departments in Canada.

We help students develop the skills they need to dream of and invent the technology of the future through hands-on experiences in state-of-the-art labs and instruction from skilled faculty.

The Department has over 60 faculty members with expertise in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Intelligent Systems.

We have world-class research and teaching facilities and a range of research and education programs.

We received the Rising to the Challenge Award in 2021 for our innovative response to the pandemic from the ECE Department Heads Association.

Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 450 students, including approximately 220 PhD students.


Duties

  • Provides general administrative supportive including maintaining student files, entering grades and grade changes, preparing examination notices
  • Maintains admissions databases for the MEng program, providing assistance to the Applications Coordinator for the MSc and PhD program and preparing basic admissions and enrolment statistics
  • Assists students with the registration process
  • Represents the department at recruitment and orientation events
  • Liaises with other university departments such as the Registrar's Office, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, and University of Alberta International on day to day issues
  • Updates timetables, deadline information and website
  • Assists with manual registration forms for visiting and special students
  • Prepares letters for students confirming course registration and program completion
  • Provides support to the Associate Chair, Graduate Studies and Associate Chair, Research Planning by scheduling appointments, gathering statistics and information, etc.
  • Acts as the first point of contact when the Marketing Events Coordinator is absent (assisting students, faculty members, receiving packages, performing general office duties, etc.)
  • Provides support for the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) process which includes collecting, organizing and maintaining an efficient system to track submissions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma; 2 year Business Administration diploma an asset; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • 2 years of work experience in an office environment, ideally at a university or other academic institution
  • Advanced user of Excel and databases; Familiarity with Microsoft & Google office suites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, (Campus Solutions) an asset
  • Knowledge of FOIPP procedures and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several timesensitive tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively; demonstrated the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races
  • Exceptional customer service skills; demonstrated the ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services
