Job Summary:


Reporting to the Director, Student Success, the Manager, Student Engagement and Equity leads in the planning, delivery and assessment of programs and services designed to support the transition, ongoing engagement and leadership development of undergraduate students at Ontario Tech.

In support of our institutional commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, the Manager also leads in the provision of student-facing programs and services designed to promote a culture of respect, inclusivity and consent.


Responsibilities/accountabilities:


Leadership
-
Provides leadership to the Student Engagement and Equity (SEE) team in the identification of unit goals and priorities that support divisional and institutional strategic plans and the vision and mission of the university

  • Cultivates positive relationship with faculties, service units and community partners to ensure their continuous involvement and commitment to student development and engagement programming
  • Coordinates and facilitates the communication of information and ideas related to programs and services through formal committee meetings, workshops, ongoing dialogue and communications.

Management
-
Leads a team of professional staff responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of student-facing programming in the areas of: sexual violence education and prevention, equity, diversity and inclusion, orientation and transition, leadership development, and mentoring at both the north and downtown campus location

  • Maintains a highlevel of performance within the SEE team through effective hiring, supervision, performance development, coaching and mentoring.
  • Provides indirect supervision to hundreds of student volunteers and staff through effective mentoring and coaching of professional staff
  • Manages the scheduling and operations of the Student Engagement and Equity Suite
  • Develops departmental procedures and administrative processes to foster a community built on consent, respect and inclusion
  • Manages the departmental budget, tracking special accounts for reporting purposes (e.g. ministry grants or special projects) and developing budget submissions to ensure appropriate management and accountability of funds

Design
and
Student
Development**-
Coordinates and leads the research, design, development and implementation of innovative, first-year transitional programs and services designed to foster a sense of belonging; and help incoming students build connections and navigate the university experience

  • Engages with faculty, academic and service unit partners and the Ontario Tech Student Union in collaborative efforts to design, develop and assess inclusive undergraduate orientation and peer to peer mentorship programs
  • Creates and facilitates spaces for student consultation and leadership in all aspects of program design
  • Manages the design, development, delivery and evaluation of studentfacing programs designed to support equityseeking groups, address systemic barriers and encourage a culture of inclusion throughout the university community
  • Oversees the implementation and ongoing assessment and evaluation of a multilevelled leadership program designed to support core success skill development through cocurricular learning and volunteerism
  • Supports institutional programming by providing trained student Ambassadors who represent the university at key internal, external and recruitment events
  • Supports the ongoing development of policies, procedures and administrative processes for the Experiential Learning catalogue
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive program and service assessment plan to foster a culture of evidencebased decision making and continuous program improvement and innovation

Communications

Partners with Student Life communications and colleagues across the university on the development and delivery of a first-year transition communications plan

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of yearly departmental communications plans designed to promote unit programs and initiatives and encourage student engagement
  • Oversees the creation of departmental marketing materials across all platforms to review for content and potential risk
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners and marketing teams on the development of cobranded materials
