    Job Summary:

    The EDI Outreach and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of programming targeted to first-generation and racialized students who face systematic barriers accessing post-secondary education. Reporting to the Manager, Student Recruitment, this position will create and run an outreach program to provide an earlier connection to university planning. Engaging with community groups and key high schools with high representation of first-generation and racialized students, the role will work with students from Grade 8 through Grade 12 to run programming to help create a path to university education. This role will require travel, primarily provincially, representing Ontario Tech at education fairs, secondary schools, community events, college visits and other outreach and recruitment opportunities.

    Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Working in collaboration with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Engagement, identify key community partners.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community groups and high schools with high representation of first-generation and racialized students.
  • Create a comprehensive plan of outreach activities, community and school visits, events and workshops, communications etc.
  • Collaborate with Faculties and Service units to develop outreach programming both on- and off-campus.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop a clear communication plan, digital marketing and print collateral.
  • Collaborates with school boards and other partners to promote post-secondary access and success.
  • Create specific workshops, activities, and webinar content to meet goals of the outreach strategy.
  • Partnering with the recruitment team to embed an EDI priority to summer enrichment programs.
  • Increases brand awareness of Ontario Tech to first-generation and racialized prospective students or applicants through in-person and virtual presentations and workshops, attendance at various high school and community events.
  • Utilize the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to proactively nurture and engage with students.
  • Reach out to prospective students to offer support through their high school experience as they begin to plan for post-secondary studies. Keep students interested and engaged throughout the journey.
  • Attends both on and off campus events across the province.
  • Holds one-on-one meetings with assigned students.
  • Respond to queries related to university admission requirements, programs, services and Student Life.
  • Provides feedback, ideas and recommendations for improving the Ontario Tech brand, recruitment communication and marketing collateral, events and general recruitment initiatives.
  • Maintain outreach webpages in the Ontario Tech Content Management System.
  • Research best practices and emerging trends in outreach programming, working with first-generation and racialized students.
  • Work with internal stakeholders on reporting of outreach activities for strategic planning and external funding.
  • Represent on any relevant equity and outreach committees internally and provincially.
  • Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated understanding of equity, accessibility, intersectionality, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion, particularly as it relates to education.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of systemic barriers and experiences of members of equity-deserving groups.
  • Working knowledge of outreach and student recruitment.
  • Strong understanding of STEM disciplines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and foster relationships with elementary and secondary school aged students, school board officials, and community organizations.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on presentation to external contacts.
  • Strong relationship management skills to work successfully in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Flexibility in dealing with a variety of clients, secondary, non-secondary, non-traditional, parents, teachers, guidance counsellors and community partners.
  • Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation.
  • Excellent program development, delivery and assessment skills.
  • Proficiency in using advanced features associated with the current versions of Google Suite, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required.
  • Significant and detailed level of knowledge of the Ontario Tech university environment and structure.
  • A working knowledge of post-secondary programs throughout Canada is an asset.
  • Understanding of data and how to utilize it for reporting.
  • Strong technical/multi-media skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the proven ability to keep current on changes and trends in the university environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment.
  • A strong record of teamwork, with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
  • Required Education:

  • Completion of a four-year university program, specifically in a discipline related to Ontario Tech programming. Degree from Ontario Tech is strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required

    Required Experience:

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a related environment.
  • Experience in outreach programming, community engagement, student recruitment is an asset
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G) with clear Driver's Abstract is required
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as assigned, including driving and standing for lengthy periods and lifting display units and boxes weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Frequent irregular working hours, with occasional weekend and evening work required
  • An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.
  • Note: Each candidatewill be required to make a 15 minute presentation, using PowerPoint, as part ofthe selection process.
