The Underwriting Support Team provides a dedicated support service to the business.

Our primary focus is to provide a timely and high quality service to the underwriting divisions in Markel, managing and processing written inwards risk information.

    Our primary focus is to provide a timely and high quality service to the underwriting divisions in Markel, managing and processing written inwards risk information.

  • Department & role overview
  • The Underwriting Support team comprises 17 underwriting assistants in all offices across Canada. The team provides administrative assistance to up to 80 underwriters in all locations.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, creating references, processing bordereaux, issuing quotations, policy documents and invoices. Timely and efficient administrative support is critical to providing a highquality service to our underwriters, and ultimately, our brokers and clients.
Duties and accountabilities

  • Underwriting Support
  • Complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Policy issuance
  • Quote & Bind execution
  • Bordereaux upload
  • Broker of Record changes
  • Policy cancellation, extension or midterm adjustment
  • Other underwriting administration tasks as required
  • Proactively make suggestions and recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay current on all new workflows and UW bulletins
  • Understand regional differences and works together to create consistency across Markel Canada.
  • Regular communication with Manager/Team re workload and priorities.
  • Participate in National Team meetings and relates key information back to UST.
  • Support the successful implementation of Websure (policy administration system) enhancements.
  • Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience
  • Have experience working with commercial insurance products and in their administration
  • Understand the Canadian and Western insurance markets
  • Be a proficient Microsoft Office user
  • Be ready to work in a change environment
  • React readily to shifting deadlines and be able to prioritize their work
  • Have high standards and take pride in delivering accurate work
