Purpose:


The Security Supervisor is responsible for the effective day-to-day supervision of all on-duty Security Officials, or designated teams of officials, including liaising with the Operations Manager of goSAFE & Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV).

This role ensures that their department provides high quality, customer-focused services to the York community according to the University's vision and the department's mission of Security Services.

This role ensures that all calls for service and complaints are attended to in a professional and timely manner, and that a record of such actions is accurately maintained.

The Supervisor supports all proactive programs that have been implemented, consistent with a community-based service philosophy, and works closely with the crime prevention and investigative units.

In addition, this role identifies and develops strategies to meet present and future requirements in line with the University's mission statements and objectives.


Education:


Requires a college diploma in a related discipline and have the equivalent in training and experience in a Security or related industry.

University degree would be an asset. Must have a valid Security Guard License and be willing to obtain a Private Investigators License. Posses an Ontario 'G' class drivers licence in good standing.

Will attend, participate, and successfully complete both in class and physical components of Use of Force Training, defense tactics, the use of personal protective equipment, First Aid and CPR.

recertifies as required.


Experience:


A minimum of three years related experience in a Supervisory role within Security Services industry or equivalent experience and training in a related industry.

Experience and training in the Ontario Use of Force Model including certification in the use of expandable batons and handcuffs is preferred.

Must successfully complete the York Security Services Advance Patrol Training certification program.

A minimum of one-year Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.


Skills:

Knowledge

Knowledge of relevant legislations such as the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Security Guard Act as well as understanding of relevant Collective Agreements.

Skills

Ability to function under the parameters of York's vision of Security Services and an understanding of the University's direction for Security Services.

Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills including professionalism, courtesy, flexibility, tact, and diplomacy.
Good sense of judgment, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to train others based on operating procedures.

Ability to lead personnel in a team-oriented environment with a sound knowledge of patrol functions, crime prevention, investigative techniques, physical security and disaster preparedness.

Excellent analytical skills. excellent oral, written communication skills and effective listening skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to community members.
Ability to advise and support Security staff in situations where they are dealing with difficult, unpredictable and/or violent persons.
Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, ownership and the ability to motivate staff.

A valid Ontario 'G' class drivers licence in good standing is required.

Compensation:


York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.

Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
