Description
1 year contract position which could lead to full-time permanent employment.

To supervise the maintenance workforce consisting of all mechanics, electricians, painters, carpenters, room fix-it team, etc. and ensure the effective functioning of the Hotel.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises the maintenance staff on performance and efficiency.
  • Schedules and ensures departmental staff complete work orders in the allotted time.
  • Schedules daily work duties for all staff on a monthly basis, incorporating their days off, statutory holidays and departmental needs. Editing of employee punches for payroll.
  • Participates in the interviewing process and conducts orientation and training for new employees.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for all maintenance staff and reviews with the employees.
  • Conducts regular and periodical inhouse training to all staff or on an individual basis regarding the handling of mechanical and electrical equipment (ie. boilers, chillers, fire alarm systems, televisions, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains a Preventative Maintenance programme that ensures all guest rooms are serviced twice per year keeping a checklist, schedule, and follow up on any deficiency problems on electrical, mechanical, HVAC and other equipment such as laundry, kitchen, refrigeration, etc.
  • Oversees guest room renovation programmes, liaising with contractors and hotel management to ensure their respective needs and schedules are met.
  • Contacts service contractors such as Plumbers, Electricians, Fire Alarm Co. etc. for regular service and emergencies and checks for the completion of their work. Prior to service, compares the service quotations to get the most valuable price. Reviews work orders to ensure the requests are completed before authorizing the invoice.
  • Verifies regular inventory of materials and parts to ensure sufficient supply. Prepares purchase orders, and where possible, obtains the most reasonable price.
  • Organizes maintenance projects with other departments and ensures the projects are working according to schedule.
  • Responds to emergency calls for any problems in the Hotel afterhours or on days off.
  • Follows the Hotel Policy and Procedure Manual including Health and Safety.
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety and its regulations by:

  • Performing workplace inspections

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


Completion of an apprenticeship and/or prior experience leading a team engaged in maintenance and repairs in a hotel or office building.


LANGUAGE SKILLS


For the purpose of verbal and written communication with employees, other departmental employees, contractors and suppliers, a good knowledge of the English language is required.
