Subject to budgetary consideration, NSCAD University invites applications for an 8-month Limited Term Sessional at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Craft - Ceramics.

The sessional instructor would teach some of the following:

Fall 2024 and Winter 2025
CERM X Studio Project 1-4: Ceramics
CERM 3510 Adv. Wksp. Image making
CERM Introductory Ceramics
CERM 2110 Introductory Throwing
CERM 3001 Intermediate Handbuilding

It is our expectation that all courses will be taught in person at the NSCAD Port Campus.

The successful candidate will:

• Have an active, original, and innovative plan of high-quality craft research and a vision for its future directions
• Have an ongoing and engaging professional practice in craft
• Demonstrate excellence in teaching and student supervision
• Have earned an MFA degree or equivalent

Consistent with NSCAD's criteria for appointment, the selection committee will evaluate candidates based on their:

1) potential as leaders in their fields;
2) original, innovative proposed research program of the highest quality;
3) record of mentoring students;
4) active national and international exhibition (public presentation) record.

We seek an innovative candidate in the area of Ceramics, whose accomplishments have demonstrated the potential to make a major impact in the field. We encourage applications from outstanding studio-based researchers who work in art, craft and design-based methodologies, and who also have demonstrated commitment to equity and decolonization in their work and research.

The candidate will hold knowledge and expertise in contemporary ceramics related to - hand building and throwing, small and large scale ceramic construction and in one or several of the following research areas:

• Ceramic Vessel and Sculpture
• Advanced Clay Glaze and Surface Development
• Digital materiality
• Installation, architecture, site specific
• Craft community-based practice
• Craft and ecology

Faculty and Librarians at NSCAD are governed by the provisions of the Collective Agreement (FUNSCAD Unit 1).

The term of this position is September 1, April 30, 2025. Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and in accordance with the Faculty Salary Grid.
