Position Summary

Responsibilities

  • Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment
  • Use academic technology effectively to enhance and support learning
  • Develop and maintain contacts with relevant hospitality industry and professional associations
  • Work with Program Advisory Committee members in ensuring curriculum relevancy and currency
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management as well as external partners and community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
  • Provide academic support to learners as required.
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Work with Student Success Advisory in supporting students
  • Participate in recruitment events, retention meetings and new student orientations
  • Attends meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and participates in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred in Tourism / Business / Culture or related field from an accredited educational institution
  • Current certifications or professional designations in the related field is an asset.
  • A minimum of 7 years business experience in a leading position in the areas of management, sales, economics, communications, and /or leadership are required.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience at a postsecondary level, incorporating active learning strategies in online, hybrid, flexible, and inperson classes.
  • A history of scholarship and peer reviewed publications an asset.
  • Prior postsecondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies at the college, university or corporate training level as asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning
  • Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
