How will you contribute?


Work behind the scenes in the upper house of the Parliament of Canada and in the development of the overall communications strategy aimed at enhancing the visibility of the senators' work to all Canadians.

Leverage your passion for communications, your creative ideas and your interest in current events and political landscape to create dynamic and engaging content.


As the Communications Officer (Committees), you will be responsible for ensuring that a proactive communications approach is put in place to support committees' work across multiple channels emphasizing the use of modern tools, web and social media platforms.


You will support and collaborate with key stakeholders in the planning and implementation of the communications plans to maximize the visibility regarding ongoing studies and activities.

You will also work closely with the offices of committee members (especially the chair and deputy chair) to ensure required communications material is prepared according to specific timelines.

This involves analyzing large amounts of information while managing multiple and concurrent project files.


This position reports to the Manager, Strategic Communications and may involve travelling with the committees to provide members with on-site communications support when they are conducting fact-finding missions outside Ottawa.

The general public to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate.

Prerequisites

  • Postsecondary education in communications, journalism or in a related field or a combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in developing and implementing communications plans;
  • Experience working in a deadlinedriven environment;
  • Experience with social media platforms on behalf of an organization/association/institution;
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee resources on project deliverables across multidisciplinary teams;
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to explain complex topics in plain language in both official languages;
  • Knowledge of Parliament and the Canadian political landscape would be considered an asset.
