PWO Canada is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier for auto manufacturers globally. We are one of five subsidiaries in the PWO AG Group, manufacturing lightweight metal components for the automotive industry.


PURPOSE OF POSITION


The purpose of the position of Production Supervisor is to monitor all production and production related activities on the day, afternoon or night shift as assigned by the Production Manager.


The overall goal of a Production Supervisor is to maintain and improve production processes of an organization through managing teams and equipment.

To succeed at achieving this goal they must be able to analyze production data and offer constructive improvements to optimize production outputs.


NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
All production staff on the dedicated shift report directly to the Production Supervisor.

The Production Supervisor is responsible for all operations activities on his/her shift. He/she provides daily work assignments. The position responds to any problems employees have and investigates problems as required. He/she is responsible for follow up on all problems occurring on the shift. Internal contacts consist of production, logistics, shipping and receiving, quality services, tooling, and maintenance personnel. There are no external contacts for the position. Ensuring work is carried out in a safe manner and enforcing safety requirements.

The position is responsible for his/her work and coordinating the work of others. The position makes recommendations for the hiring, firing, disciplining and remuneration of staff.

They must have an analytical mind, and a detailed understanding of complex manufacturing and production processes. They must also have excellent management and interpersonal skills to coordinate their production teams. They should be responsible, proactive, reliable, work independently, and lead by example.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Post-secondary technical program including a bachelor's degree in technology, mechanical engineering, or business administration or equivalent and further training in management/leadership skills is necessary.

Excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic.

Knowledge and Skills:

The position must have knowledge of stamping presses, both progressive and automatic transfer, as well as welding and assembly.

Knowledge of tooling, production scheduling, occupational health and safety and quality standards (TS16949) are required. Must be able to plan manpower requirements daily.

Communication Skills:
Good written communication skills are required for normal business/technical communication.

Excellent oral skills are required in order to provide instruction and feedback to production staff and to the Production Manager.

Ability to write reports legibly and accurately, and be able to articulate issues they cannot solve on their own.

Computer Skills:

The position requires regular use of a computer, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as ODC.

Working knowledge of Excel to analyze data, including making charts and graphs, is required.

Nature and Length of Experience:

At least three years of experience at a supervisory level in a similar production environment with reporting, planning, training and disciplinary skills.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that production is running smoothly by delegating production assignments to staff, and supporting the production teams through fast communication and escalation were required. Assists with the solving of any problems that arise on a day to day basis by use of facts, data, and critical thinking, and supervises operations within the facility to achieve the highest output possible and eliminate waste by organizing, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks to meet daily production goals.
  • Performs administrative duties such as preparing updates for the daily scheduling meeting, daily manpower planning, time and attendance corrections, approving overtime and signing clock corrections and plans vacation time for the dedicated shift.
  • Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; establishing priorities; monitoring progress and revising schedules as required; resolving problems and informs logistics if parts will not be produced in time to meet the production schedule.
  • Informs tooling and general maintenance if they are required for trouble shooting, equipment or tool repair.
  • Supervises employees by verbally correcting behaviours regarding the operation of machinery and/or time management, health and safety, etc. Provides ongoing progressive discipline as required. Recommends hiring and terminations to the manager of the department, and assists in the recruitment and onboarding of new hires.
  • Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
  • Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
