The Gender Based Violence (GBV) Social Change Agent will provide direct services for gender-based violence prevention support using client-centered, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed framework to
strengthen the GBV sector based on the tree of Life model.

The GBV Social Change Agent will work to address the root causes of GBV in a culturally sensitive manner to support South East/South Asian, Black and Arab women in Manitoba in collaboration GBV Community Engagement Manager and partnership with Manitoba Association of Women's Shelters (MAWS).

The project will scale up "Still I Rise" gender-based violence program to engage with at-risk and underserved populations and develop measurement tools and indicators from scaling this promising practice widely.


Responsibilities

  • Promote and recruits' women and gender diverse folks from the 3 communities served by this project through presentation, partnership, collaboration in coordination with project team members.
  • Provide crisis case management support to the participants of this project (Southeast /South Asian, Black and Arab communities).
  • Assist participants navigating systems through educations and identifying relevant resources to meet their healing goals.
  • Contribute to program development through ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This includes identifying gaps in offerings and services and creatively working within the team to meet these short falls,
  • Develop mínimally 5 psychoeducational groups 6 sessions per group (Understanding GBV, Healthy relationship,

Community Resources:
step by step on reporting abuse, Self-advocacy 101, Safety Planning process) that are culturally relevant to the population served, using ECRC gender based early intervention and prevention promising practices,


Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree in the social services field and over 5 years of experience,
  • Experience providing shortterm, and/or crisis counseling to individuals who have been impacted by genderbased violence, mental health, and complex trauma.
  • Knowledge and experience using the following approach including antioppression, strengthbased, traumainformed and harm reduction model.
  • Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of therapeutic and psychoeducation groups.
  • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity is required to work effectively with the diversity of our client base.
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to individual experiencing genderbased violence, and other barriers,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in a second/third language is an asset
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team environment, align with the motivation to selfdirect your work and be constructive in unsupervised situations
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated decision making abilities,
  • Basic computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Nonjudgmental and accepting attitude
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • A valid driver's license and a vehicle is a requirement.

Work Hours:
Non

- standard hours of work day and evenings flexibility required.

Required to work one evening shift per week. However, the hours of work will be between 9:00am-5:00pm Mondays to Fridays.
