    Description

    Position Overview

    • Reporting to the Administrative Assistant in Occupational Therapy, the incumbent is responsible for providing clerical support for Child Health Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy (PT).
    • Acting as Receptionist, greeting and directing patients and their families, overseeing the waiting area, and scheduling appointments.
    • Answering the main telephone line, making and changing patient appointments, directing calls, and relaying messages.
    • Receiving and processing inpatient and outpatient referrals.
    • Providing clerical support to the Child Health OT and PT staff including filing, copying, ordering supplies, booking rooms, scheduling meetings, and word processing.

    Experience

    • One year related office and reception experience required, two or more years preferred.
    • Previous secretarial experience in a health care setting preferred.

    Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

    • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
    • Successful completion of a recognized secretarial training program required.
    • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Certification/Licensure/Registration

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Must have excellent interpersonal and English communication skills.
    • Typing 50 wpm and medical terminology required.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access required.
    • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy services offered would be an asset.
    • Preference given to applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or with knowledge of Indigenous customs.

    Physical Requirements

    • Interaction with the public and professional staff in person and by telephone is continuous.
    • Frequent interruptions of ongoing activities are required.
    • Must be able to deal with interactions and interruptions in a courteous manner.
