THE ROLE:


Working closely with and under the direction of the Chief Operations and People Officer, the Manager of Facilities and Operations is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of all building related activities.

In doing so, you will ensure that Geneva Centre for Autism (GCA) buildings are safe, well-maintained, and aligned with regulatory standards.


The successful incumbent will work closely with third party vendors to ensure GCA buildings are operating efficiently and effectively by actively managing and trouble-shooting day-to-day operational issues and challenges.

They will act as the key point of contact for the building tenants and promptly resolve building issues or complaints.

Finally, the Manager will provide mentoring, coaching and direction to the Facility Coordinator and work closely with the Operations team to ensure that all buildings are operating smoothly.


WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE:


  • Maintenance and Operations_
Develops, implements, and monitors property and preventative maintenance programs across the organizations' locations.


Responds promptly to staff and tenant concerns regarding facility-related matters (using internal helpdesk software) by troubleshooting, performing minor repairs/moves/cleaning or when necessary, coordinating with 3rd parties.

Maintain all building services including office facilities, HVAC, electrical systems, safety and security in the most cost-effective, timely manner.


Supervises and schedules activities (ie., electrical, fire prevention, plumbing, HVAC, custodial, grounds maintenance and pest control services) of vendors when required and coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure programing is not impacted.

Perform minor repairs (drywall repairs, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, cleaning, and other projects as required).

Ensure both the interior and exterior of the property are kept maintained, clean and orderly.

Monitor and purchase maintenance and cleaning supplies.

Provides direction, support and mentoring to the Facility Coordinator and works closely with the Front Desk Administrator.


Ensure compliance with applicable legislation such as the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Canadian Standards Association, Technical Standards Association, and Electrical Safety Authority.

Be available and participate in on-call emergency response during evenings/weekends for building emergencies.


Works with the finance team to ensure capital plans are prioritized to maintain facilities in a state of good repair.

Liaises and communicates effectively with all departments to ensure efficient and effective operations.

Ensures completion of all maintenance related records.

  • Security and Safety_
Ensuring proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security system vendors.

Monitors the security system, addresses and troubleshooting issues and makes recommendations to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Provide administration for security processes including procurement and delivery of keys/key cards, and monitoring/adjusting elevator/security schedules as needed.

Champion of workplace health, safety and wellness, responds promptly to issues raised and/or escalates as required to the COO.

Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee as an active member.

Is available on call, 24/7 to address facility related emergencies.


WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (e.g. Building Science, Facility Management, Construction Methodology, or construction related Project Management).

Minimum two (2) years experience in facility operations.

Supervisory or management experience is an asset.

Strong understanding of building infrastructure (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Safety, etc.).

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation is an asset.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Maintenance experience and familiarity with building systems, building upkeep, structural issues, and grounds maintenance. Good knowledge of Fire Safety Systems.

Experience designing, implementing, and managing preventative maintenance programs.

Experience performing minor repairs to walls and furniture.

Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver
