LMS Analyst


Reporting to the Director, Academic Technology, the LMS Analyst is responsible for supporting the Academic Technology team, Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation, and stakeholders across the organization by serving as a technical/functional analyst responsible for configuration and optimization of our learning management system (LMS).

In consultation with Director, Academic Technology and the LMS Administrator, the incumbent will provide technical support of Mohawk College's MyCanvas production LMS, MyCanvas development and testing LMS, and the Connect LMS for external partners.


The LMS Analyst is responsible for the support, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of content, assets, and other resources used for instructional functions.

The incumbent supports the installation of system updates, upgrades to various learning tool integrations, and assists with content and user configurations within Mohawk College's MyCanvas production LMS, MyCanvas development and testing LMS, and Connect LMS for external partners.

Working collaboratively with vendors, College staff and faculty, the incumbent provides support with continuous process and quality improvements essential to support evidence-informed instructional practices.

Strong communication skills are required for the documentation and maintenance of technical procedures, policy documentation, and best practice guides. Ability to collaborate with others at all levels of the organization, including vendors.

Adhering to set IT Security Policies, Standards, and Guidelines, and have proficiency in Javascript, CSS, HTML, REST API and JSON.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

System Configuration and Maintenance:


  • Monitor and ensure the functional daily operation, of the Mohawk College's MyCanvas production LMS, MyCanvas development and testing LMS, and MyCanvas Connect external partners platform LMS.
  • Collaborate with the IT on integrations with other internal systems like Banner, and the Security and Enterprise group for new integrations, whether lead by Academic Tech or by IT.
  • Maintains uptodate knowledge of current technology as it applies to LMS(s) software and systems.

User / Course management:


  • Maintains user (students, faculty, staff) login accounts as needed and assigns user permissions based on school or department requirements.
  • Support daily questions from CTLI / IT / Faculty / Students or department managers requesting information for any regular and recurring operations.
  • Organize and manage user structures within the Mohawk College's MyCanvas production LMS, MyCanvas development and testing LMS and MyCanvas Connect external partners platform LMS including implementing changes to subaccounts from the College's organizational structure.

Troubleshooting:


  • Prioritize, troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system functionality and software systems and determine if the request needs to be forwarded to another CTLI team member, IT Helpdesk, or other areas of the college.

Testing, maintenance, and documentation:


  • Monitor and test monthly release patches for upcoming system changes and provides feedback to the ETS team.
  • Collaborates with the LMS vendor CSM on monthly deploy upgrades/maintenance patching.
  • Provide comprehensive technical testing and proofing of all course components; ensuring readiness for the golive updates
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant must have:

  • A minimum 3 year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Data Analytics and/or Data Science, Management of Information Systems or equivalent combined experience and education.
  • Minimum of experience in the information technology field or experience in a similar role.
  • Skills and knowledge in LMS systems, preference to Canvas by Instructure and a variety of educational technologies.
  • Proficiency with fundamental frontend languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Clear communication and documentation.
