Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Packages items for shipment to domestic and international destinations.
  • Responsible for ensuring shipping requests are correctly completed.
  • In accordance with Canada Customs, prepares all necessary documentation including that required for shipment to the US, Europe, and Asia.
  • For transporting dangerous goods, will prepare the package for shipment with associated paperwork.
  • Receives and unloads items from transport vehicle using a forklift, if necessary.
  • Examines shipments for any sign of damage or for dangerous goods. Confirms that the Order and Shipping Declaration match. If there are leaks, call the carrier using the number on the Shipping Declaration, and activates the Emergency Spill Response Action Plan. Works with internal customer on damage claims.
  • Provides shortterm storage of received items in the Shipping/Receiving dock and followsup with internal customers regarding the removal of their shipments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains safe custody of all materials in area of the operation.
  • Responsible for ordering and delivering paper to TSC photocopiers
  • Assists Facilities, when requires, in small moves within the building involving workstation and office furniture.
  • Assist with maintenance of onsite vehicle, including seasonal tire swaps, annual maintenance, and runs during down periods.
  • Assist with scheduling of annual maintenance and service checks for forklift.
Job Requirements


Education:


  • Completion of secondary school or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Experience:


  • Experience in all phases of shipping and receiving environment
  • Experience working in customer service

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the operations involved in a Shipping/Receiving environment in a technical organization.
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices of Canadian, USA and International customs regulations.
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices of Canadian Export of Controlled Goods.
  • Knowledge and practice of Canada Border Services Agency B13A Generating Application
  • Knowledge of procedures to follow for TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods air and ground).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS).
  • Knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an accidental spill or release of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of First Aid.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and Internet browsers.
  • Knowledge of Ladder safety practices.

Abilities:

  • Use of the semiautomatic wrapping machine, Air Speed Packer System and small hand tools to make pallets.
  • Ability to interpret most efficient means of transportation while adhering to Canadian Customs regulations.
  • Ability to research shipping/receiving information using the Internet.
  • Ability to process customs documentation and other paper work for shipping/receiving.
  • Ability to interpret policies and regulations.
  • Good judgement when using resources and equipment, when searching and selecting best mode of transportation for outofthe way places, and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to put the customer first.

Working conditions:

  • This position is required to lift items up to 40KG
  • A valid Driver's License is required
  • This position uses the Forklift
  • This position is based in Ottawa at the Technical Systems Centre (TSC) and is classified as an onsite position. This position is not eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
