Your opportunity:


Reporting to the Lead Coordinator, Clubs & Leadership Development, the Student Life Officer (Recognized Campus Organizations) is anintegral member of a team of student life programmers, communications and assessment specialists dedicated to building a community on campus and engaging students in a process of personal growth.

The SLO (RCO) has daily interaction with students, primarily student leaders, and provides support to more than 650 recognized campus groups (clubs) on U of T's St.

George Campus.


Responsibilities include:

constitution review, providing administrative support for meetings and events and front-line supportin the provision of key services; maintaining an up-to-date database of all recognized campus groups and student societies; facilitating room bookings; implementing strategies to develop a sense of community among building occupants and to raise awareness of the Club House and its occupants; administering the operation of the Campus Groups Resource Centre; providing front-line support for the Club House; and maintaining the content sections of the department website.

Some evening shifts (12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) required.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Advising student groups on the development of clubs and societies
  • Ensuring that program policies and procedures are applied consistently and equitably
  • Creating and maintaining procedures and guidelines to support student success activities
  • Coordinating the preparation of space, materials and equipment required for daily programming activities
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years recent related experience working in a student service, or related, environment. Experience in a University environment required with experience at the University of Toronto an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a campus organization required.
  • Demonstrated skill/experience in crosscultural communication.
  • Effective working knowledge of windows computers and appropriate software packages for word processing, graphic design, assessment and communications.
  • Administrative and project management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the University, including understanding of Student Life, the faculties and colleges and the organizational structure of the University.
  • Ability to exercise patience, professionalism, tact and relate to students in a way that builds trust and confidence.
  • Ability to exercise accuracy and attention to detail and to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to become involved in a wide variety of projects and duties.
  • Ability to prioritize a diverse workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
