PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for providing high-level administrative and operational support to the L&C Manager and
Language Coordinator. The Executive Coordinator is responsible for managing day-to-day administrative tasks,
coordinating scheduling and travel arrangements, and maintaining organizational systems and processes to ensure
smooth and efficient operations. The Executive Coordinator acts as a liaison between the executives and the Language
Department and is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of projects and initiatives. As well, the
champion group to ensure the perpetuation, promotion and revitalization of Secwepemctsín through various projects,
programs and marketing of the language.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Overseeing the coordination, facilitation, creation, and implementation of language educational programs as

identified by the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) for Secwepemctsín, with a focus on the dialect of the TteS.

Strategic Leadership:

Plan and monitor functions according to priorities set out by the Manager and Language Coordinator
:


  • Fundraising by writing and submitting proposals for the purpose of teaching Secwépemc language and culture,
and submitting all reporting requirements in a timely manner - in accordance with TteS language revitalization
plan

  • Assist with developing curricula for all age groups, learning styles, and ability.
  • Establish and maintain excellent rapport with colleagues and clients.
  • Assist the TteS Language Coordinator to develop a TteS Publishing Plan to produce authentic TteS resource
material to support teaching/education programs, including research.

Promote the Language, History and Culture revitalization plan.

Uphold the Shuswap Nation Declaration to work in unity to preserve, record, enhance and perpetuate our
Secwépemc language, history and culture.

To provide sound leadership and foster team spirit so the staff will help to continually review and update our L&C
strategic plan.

Promotes and enhances the integrity of the Western Dialect of the Secwepemctsín and ensure that staff and
members are given priority in participating in the L&C programs and services.

Mentor under Dr. Marianne Ignace while she teaches the SFU language immersion programs.


Community Relations and Outreach Activities:


  • Initiate outreach activities to attract TteS language learners.
  • Support the language champions of the TteS community.
  • Work with the language staff to increase the number of Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc language learners and fluent
- speakers of all ages within the community.
  • Participate in intercommunity communication by identifying language champions and building rapport with local
- elders, fluent speakers, traditional knowledge holders, and cultural experts.
  • Participate in TteS Opening Ceremonies and Welcoming for internal and external community partnerships and

- stakeholders.
  • Assist with special projects as required.

Research, Reporting and Administrative Policies:

- prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Assist with gathering information for proposals that focus on the enhancement and revival of Secwépemc
language, history and culture.

  • Assist with gathering information to update the Language Status Assessment for the TteS community.
  • Responsible for providing written and verbal reports, including an annual report by March 31st including statistics
- related to TteS learners/speakers.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures, and as
- directed by the Language Coordinator and Language & Culture Department Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Language & Culture Department and TteS.

**Professional Certification, Education and Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in First Nations Language or Business Administration Diploma or equivalent 3-5 years'

experience in project management for revitalizing a First Nation Language.

  • A willingness to be mentored in curriculum development is required.
  • Must be willing to continually upgrade knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must pass Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have a current valid BC Drivers Licence and reliable transportation.
