This includes measuring patients' vision, taking history, checking their pupils, testing colour vision, measuring the power of glasses they wear, determining what strength glasses they need, measuring eye pressure, putting in eye drops. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for doing specialized testing such as laser scans of the optic disc, photographs, measuring contrast sensitivity, measuring the cornea (front surface contour, thickness, and back surface cell counts), measuring their peripheral visual fields and doing pre-op cataract measurements to determine the power of lens they will need implanted in their eye.
