Job Description:


The Senior Manager of Health & Safety is a contract role, responsible for developing, implementing and proactively advancing tools, resources and initiatives in order to promote a culture of joint responsibility for managing health and safety.

The role requires the ability to work at an operational, tactical and strategic level to assure global compliance with existing health and safety standards and local regulations.

The Senior Manager's mission will be to develop, implement, and optimize a global program, gain active participation at every career level and embed health and safety into SSENSE's communal behaviours, while targeting a zero incident work environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Health & Safety Operations - 40%

  • Define and establish roles and responsibilities to ensure leadership and individual contributors are knowledgeable of how they are expected to contribute to the internal responsibility system for health and safety
  • Work in partnership with leadership to implement active joint health and safety committees across the business
  • Oversee companywide health and safety training ensuring that it is accessible, timely, thorough and understood by partnering with joint health and safety committees and senior leadership for feedback
  • Establish a trusted partnership with senior leadership and joint health and safety committees to cocreate and sponsor local and job specific initiatives
  • Lead the development of comprehensive tools and resources for local initiatives ensuring that training is facilitated by someone that is effective and qualified
  • Define, train and monitor streamlined tracking processes for policy sign offs, procedures, processes and inspections, providing business units with feedback on adherence and consulting the business on action items to address gaps and achieve preset targets
  • Ensure centralized record keeping is kept current, accurate and audited allowing it to be provided in a timely manner to the executive committee and government bodies, verifying compliance with global health and safety standards
  • Perform frequent streamlined audits continuously improving safety and health management systems in accordance with leading global standards, ensuring any noncompliance is addressed with solutions in a timely manner by business leadership to maintain wellfulness
  • Complete ergonomic assessments, provide recommendations and implement training programs as needed, in partnership with business leaderships
  • Oversee engineering H&S solutions within the organisation regarding equipment maintenance and usage.
  • Partner with Real Estate on Business Continuity plans
  • Oversee SSENSE CNESST Retrospective plan, implement tools and measures to ensure maximum financial returns.
Strategy & Growth - 30%

  • Oversee the interpretation of local regulations and global health and safety standards into detailed and meaningful policies, tools, resources
  • Optimize current procedures and create new health and safety policies as well as ensure leadership is thoroughly trained
  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments according to industry best practices and present the priorities alongside recommendations to senior leadership
  • Lead timely and thorough data analysis to define health and safety training priorities, programs and initiatives for employees companywide
  • Find and establish innovative solutions that will support operations while reducing incidents, source of risks and driving awareness and local accountability
  • Manage the health and safety budget by analysing data and identifying trends to justify appropriate allocation of expenses and resources depending on health and safety risk, with the support of a dedicated Financial Analyst
  • Formulate detailed recommendations to Senior Leadership, analyzing metrics and KPIs to optimize H&S procedures
  • Create a culture of H&S prioritization
  • Partner with the People, Legal and Real Estate department to create and oversee: policies, procedures and programs, focused on reporting and compliance
People Leadership - 30%

  • Hold weekly oneonones, conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles
