    Your Challenge

Great Minds. One Goal. Canada's Success.

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for a Senior English Editor to support our Construction Research Centre. The Senior English Editor would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

We are looking for a conscientious, solutions-oriented team player who strives for excellence and demonstrates qualities of accountability, leadership and integrity.

The National Model Codes (the national codes on building, fire, plumbing, energy and farm buildings) are developed through a collaborative process involving the best expertise from across Canada and around the world to provide effective building and safety regulations that are harmonized across Canada.

These highly legalistic and technically complex documents are accessed by thousands of practitioners in the construction industry, so the standards of quality are very high. Don't miss this unique opportunity to be part of the team that produces these regulatory documents, which have an impact on the lives of all Canadians

The incumbent provides high-quality English technical editing and document production management services to the Codes Canada, Canadian Construction Materials Centre and National Master Construction Specification groups within the NRC's Construction Research Centre, thereby contributing to the enhancement of publications and to technology transfer in the Canadian construction industry. Publications include the National Model Codes, which form the basis of construction regulation nationwide. They also include technical guides and commentaries on the application of the National Model Codes, and some provincial codes.

The incumbent is responsible for editing and managing the production of publications from draft English text to final files for publication, which involves ensuring that content is presented in a clear, logical fashion with a very high degree of accuracy, and in accordance with accepted standards of style, grammar and usage.

This highly specialized position also involves the production management of multiple concurrent projects and the training, mentoring and supervision of at least two English editors. Document production management responsibilities include the analysis of deliverables, timelines and resources, problem-solving, collaborating with the French editorial and translation team, and liaising with internal and external clients, subject-matter experts and suppliers.

The incumbent works within a team of editors, translators and IT specialists.
