Job description


Under the direction of the unit RN or RPN, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) is responsible for assisting residents with the activities of daily living including such as bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene and care of skin and nails.

Assisting with transfers and mobilization of residents using body mechanics and mechanical aides such as walkers, wheelchairs and lifts in accordance with lift codes.

Records observations and reports any changes/problems in resident's condition, such as mobility, temperature, skin integrity, and behaviour in POC.

Assists with meals by serving, feeding and assisting residents at meal times. Changes and makes beds. Follow details contained within the Resident's Plan of Care. Performs scheduled cleaning of W/C, walkers, tubs and other equipment and performs other related cleaning duties as required.


Qualification:


  • Personal Support Worker Certificate
  • Ability to speak, read and write English sufficiently to meet the requirements of the job
  • Ability to work with seniors in a residentcentered environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, identify priorities
  • Ability to operate a mechanical lift, whirlpool bath, wheelchair, geriatric chair, stretcher, commodes, lounge chair & other equipment required to provide resident care.
  • Experience with dementia care in a secure environment
  • Completed Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA)
  • Proficient in Point of Care (POC)
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment.



Schedule:
Must be available to work two weekends per month

  • Position is under CUPE Collective Agreement
