Job Summary:

This position is within the City Planning Strategies Division of the City of Mississauga, Planning and Building Department.

The City Planning Strategies Division is responsible for the City's long-range land use planning and the maintenance of databases supporting this function.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist with the annual employment survey a survey of over 27,000 businesses
  • Conduct telephone and face to face surveys to acquire employment and business information
  • Perform field verifications using ESRI Field Maps
  • Assist Policy Planners with special projects, updating existing land use inventories, as well as land use field reviews
  • Participate in divisional meetings and attend Planning and Development Committee and Council meetings in order to gain an understanding of the municipal planning function
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Currently enrolled at University in a jobrelated program in urban planning, geography or a related field is also required
  • Excellent communication skills are essential
  • Strong computer skills with data entry and large databases, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ArcView (or GeoMedia), and Google Earth would be a definite asset, knowledge of popular internet search engines and mapping tools are also an asset
  • Experience working in a team environment is required.
    Position requires access to a car, minimum class "G" driver's licence and driving record that is acceptable to the City
