- Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team to ensure high quality care
- Care of the mother and newborn throughout their postpartum stay
- Teaching/assisting mother and newborn with breastfeeding
- Responsible for the provision of nursing care, teaching and coaching to patients and their families
- Responsible and accountable for the provision of nursing care in accordance with the standards of nursing practice and THP Best Practice Protocols with postpartum clients and their families
- Establishing priorities and making ethically sound decisions to ensure safe patient centred care
- Documentation of patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of care
- Collaboration with other health care professionals.
- Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient's health status.
- Candidate will be a diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (., certificate RPN with added courses in medication administration, phlebotomy, and health assessment)
- Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO
- Current BCLS is required
- Current NRP certification is required
- Current OR scrub skills required
- Minimum of one year of obstetrical experience, specifically on the Obstetrics Unit, is required
- Birthing Suite/OR experience is preferred
- Obstetrical/maternity certificate is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in providing patients and families with educational teaching as applicable
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills and team work
- Demonstrated attention to patient and family-centred care and establishing therapeutic relationships
- Evidence of on-going professional development preferred
- Computer literacy is required
- Able to work all shifts, days, evenings and nights (7.5 and 11.25 hour shifts)
- A positive work and attendance record is essential
