Position Summary

The division of Specimen Management specializes in specimen procurement and processing for all UHN sites.

As a valued member of Team LMP, you will play a key role in providing high quality preanalytical services to clinical, laboratory, and research professionals.


Duties

  • Perform venipuncture, ECG, Holter Monitor Hookup on inpatients
  • Organize and arrange transport of specimens
  • Practice and provide patient centered care
  • Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
  • Participate in training of staff
  • Maintain adequate supply stocks
  • Adhere to safe working environment and comply with IPAC

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 12, or recognized equivalent
  • Graduate of a postsecondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program, or recognized equivalent
  • OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) or CSMLS license, preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in, venipuncture, ECG and specimen management
  • Effective organizational, time management skills and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
