What you'll be doing


The Education Consultant (EC) provides confidential consultation to registrants and/or program representatives employed by educational institutions or organizations that offer nursing and midwifery education programs on the education program review process, including ways to incorporate the entry-level competencies and Standards of Practice that graduates of these programs are required to achieve.

The EC provides oversight and support to the BCCNM Education Program Review Committee (EPRC) to carry out the education program review process.

The EC consults with external stakeholders, such as educators, employers and internal BCCNM staff and, in collaboration with the EPR team, serves as the main BCCNM communication link with the administrators of recognized education programs in BC.

The EC is the BCCNM representative on national projects such as revisions to the entry-level competencies and exam development for the nursing and midwifery designations and is responsible for leading the consultation process for the BC jurisdiction.


_ Key responsibilities include:
_


  • In collaboration with other ECs, leads reviews of entrylevel nursing and midwifery programs and courses in accordance with the BCCNM Education Program Review Policies and Guidelines for program. Reviews and assesses all evidence (e.g., reports) submitted during the program review, drafting reports and briefing notes (including motions) for the EPRC. Responsible for drafting program recognition reports and letters, site visit instructions, and other correspondence to the education program administration.
  • Synthesizes evidence from source documents and EPRC meeting records for inclusion in an official recognition report regarding the EPRC review process, findings, and recommendations to the Board, followed by official communication with the president of the educational institution or organization.
  • Provides leadership and support to the EPRC to plan and implement regular policy reviews, including the education standards and indicators, and to recommend revisions for Board approval.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Education Program Review, supports the EPRC by orienting members to BCCNM's mandate, policies, and processes; plans the program review schedule; provides ongoing advice and support regarding BCCNM's mandate and policies; and engages the EPRC in continuous improvement of policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Director, Education Program Review and collaborates with the EPR team on strategic initiatives of the program such as exam development, development and dissemination of entrylevel competencies, and policy development and implementation.
  • Plans and implements regular review and revision of entrylevel competencies for LPNs, RPNs, RNs, NPs and RMs. Initiates and oversees publication and communication about revised Boardapproved competencies.
  • In collaboration with the exam vendor and jurisdictional counterparts, plans and manages licensure examination development for LPNs, RPNs, RNs, NPs and RMs. Consults and communicates with key provincial and national stakeholders. Liaises with the BCCNM Registration program on examination administration.

Your education & skills

  • Educational preparation at the doctoral or master's level in nursing or midwifery or related field.
  • Over ten years of experience in nursing or midwifery positions and three to five years as an educator in an educational institution. Within these roles, demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation of nursing and midwifery students and program outcomes. Experience in administrative positions in education or practice an asset.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, group facilitation and collaboration skills, and conflict resolution skills to build consensus across groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Experience in continuous quality improvement strategy development and short
- and long-term strategic planning is required.

  • Ability to make decisions independently and collaborate with internal staff and a variety of external stakeholders.
  • Experience participating in research, academic activities, and scholarly writing.
  • Ability to synthesize salient evidence from multiple sources to prepare written reports which provide recommendations supported by reasoning.
  • Proven project planning, management, and evaluation skills.
  • Must hold practising registration in good standing with BCCNM or be eligible for practising registration with BCCNM.
