recovery, and suicide prevention through education. We support the resilience and recovery of people in
distress including those affected by mental illness or suicide by providing crisis intervention; safe, long-term
and affordable housing; peer support; suicide grief and family support; information and referral support;
and providing opportunities to improve your wellness.


Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Operations, the Culinary Program Specialist is responsible for the development
and execution of ongoing tasks within the culinary program, including the preparation of daily meals for
members at Prosper Place. The Culinary Program Specialist will be a mentor, teacher, and resource to
Prosper Place peer members. In addition, the Culinary Program Specialist, together with peer members, will
co-develop and co-facilitate curriculum as part of the CMHA Edmonton Recovery College.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Programming

  • Learn the Clubhouse Model of psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Learn the philosophy and guiding principles of the Recovery College model
  • Lead and engage with daily meal planning, preparation, service, and clean up
  • Lead and engage with daily/weekly/monthly kitchen cleaning tasks
  • Lead pest control processes
  • Maintain all AHS Food Safety logs and adhere to all AHS Food Safety rules
  • Provide input and content development for courses centered on food preparation and healthy
eating within the CMHA Edmonton Recovery College

  • Maintain menu/kitchen supply grocery list and shop for all culinary supplies within budget
  • Schedule all activities, tasks, and meal plans a minimum of one week in advance
  • Use of creativity to propose new culinary programming ideas
  • Any other duties as required and assigned

Supervisory and Administrative

  • Provides supervision and direction to peer members assisting in the culinary program
  • Ensure all peer members follow all health and safety procedures and legislation
  • Work with peer members and staff to plan and implement special events, fundraising programs,
and catering projects

  • Develop and maintain cost effective procedures for culinary projects
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications/Experience

  • Postsecondary culinary diploma an asset
  • Food preparation/chef experience required
  • Leadership and/or supervision experience
  • Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector
Check and an Intervention Record Check

  • Attainment and maintenance of a:
  • First Aid Certification
  • WHMIS Training
  • Safe Food Handling Certification
  • Possession of a Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with $2M in automobile
liability insurance


Skills/Abilities

  • Skills and abilities in basic food and baking preparation for large groups
  • Ability to take direction and work independently and in a team environment
  • Problem solving skills to assess situations and identify causes, gather and process relevant
information, generate possible solutions and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem

  • Demonstrate understanding of mental health; mental illness and recovery
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office
  • Experience in course development and facilitation
  • Demonstrate success in achieving goals in a timely manner and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to lift to 60 lbs. daily
