Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years.

KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:


  • One residential program for adolescents in care;
  • Three residential programs for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
  • A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
  • Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 413 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
  • Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 1624 experiencing homelessness.

***Kennedy House is looking for a results oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team. This is a full-time position located at our Head Office in Scarborough.


Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the company's financial plans and policies, supporting payroll process, and complete general accounting duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for accounts receivable such as preparing invoices to various funding agencies and reconciling payments.
  • Generate A/R aging report, follow up on outstanding invoices, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support biweekly payroll such as reviewing timecards, staffing changes, terminations, pay increases, preparing ROEs and calculating pay adjustments.
  • Prepare and post journal entries (i.e. payroll and accruals) in general ledger.
  • Perform reconciliation of general ledger accounts and assist with bank reconciliation process.
  • Prepare monthly payment packages for WSIB, EHT, and group benefit carriers.
  • Ensure allocation of expenses in accordance to each KHYS programs.
  • Setup benefit deductions and taxable benefits for staff on ADP.
  • Assists with various functions within the accounting department as assigned by the Accountant (i.e. tax support, audit support, expense analysis, etc.) and other ad hoc reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization's books of account.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Associate's degree in accounting or similar field. Bachelor's degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAPs)
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll related legislation and ADP payroll system.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in Finance/accounting role. Experience in a notforprofit agency preferred.
  • Acceptable police check with vulnerable sector search
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and usage of various functions in the system
  • Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal and team player skills with ability to interact with various programs
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Broad awareness of other cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in working with and for diverse populations.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Office environment but maybe required to travel within east GTA
  • Hours of work will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Maybe required to work late afternoons/evenings.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required.
