    About Our Opportunity

    Seniors and Long Term Care is seeking an individual to lead change in a dynamic sector during a time of transformational change. This position is responsible for both the day to day management of the long term care program but also leading innovative processes to improve service quality. You will provide leadership, insight and input into the development of strategic direction for the continuing care system, ensuring alignment with overall government policy and Department of Seniors and Long Term Care strategic priorities for Nova Scotia's health system.

    Primary Accountabilities

    Under the direction of the Director, Long Term Care, as the Program Manager, Long Term Care you will manage service accountability processes for Long Term Care programs funded by the Department of Seniors and Long Term Care to monitor and maximize operational and financial performance, reduce risk and ensure quality resident care. You will also provide oversight of the long term care policies, program standards and implementation; as well as authorization of payments to long term care service providers.

    You will work collaboratively with others in Seniors and Long Term Care and communicate with multiple sectors including other provincial and federal government departments, the NSHA, stakeholders and contracted service providers to advance progress in health system accountability, to mitigate risk and to effectively communicate information which enhances program delivery.

    Lastly, as the Manager you lead a high-performing team with the responsibility to liaise and provide direction and advice to the long term care sector including NSHA, IWK and DHW funded service providers on policy and standard application and compliance and to manage public inquiries and/or complaints regarding continuing care policies.

    Qualifications and Experience

    You hold a degree in a related field (such as health science, public administration, etc.) as well as at least several years of progressive experience in relevant leadership/Management roles. An acceptable equivalent of education and experience may be considered.

    As the successful candidate, you are highly motivated and collaborative by nature. You are a strong leader who takes innovative approaches in leading teams, stakeholders and providers in seeking dynamic and flexible approaches to service delivery.

    As a proven relationship builder, you will have experience in leading stakeholder engagement, providing direction and leadership to external stakeholders, program management, encompassing team leadership skills and management of people which can be demonstrated through formal and non-formal experiences.

    You must have a proven track record of successfully implementing key priorities and ensuring outcomes are achieved. The candidate will have experience, knowledge and understanding of risk management/mitigation principles and practices, program implementation, and ongoing financial and human resource management. This position requires an individual with initiative, experience in leading teams, enabling change and engaging key stakeholders.

    Nursing professionals will be considered an asset for this position. Also, experience working within the health care system, and specifically Long Term Care or demonstrated experience in program/contract management and design will be considered an asset.
