- Conduct studies to improve existing analytical methods for routine organics analyses on water, wastewater and their associated residuals, along with surface and storm water.
- Oversee the developments of new methods, procedures and targeting of emerging trace organic contaminants in various water matrices and their residuals.
- Provide technical support on routine organics analyses on water quality meet ISO 17025 accreditation requirements, and regulatory requirements for Water Treatment Plants (WTPs)/Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operation approvals, bylaws, and standards and guidelines.
- Support customer services internally and externally with scientific expertise and perform other duties related to trace organics field.
- Support the trace organics area in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Act as a spokesperson for The City of Calgary on organic analytical chemistry related to water, wastewater or environmental protection. Qualifications
- A degree in Bachelor of Science with a focus in organic chemistry and at least 5 years of experience in analytical laboratory or a relevant field.
- Must be a member of the Association of the Chemical Profession of Alberta (ACPA).
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Experience with chromatography software ( HP/Agilent ChemStation) is preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) is preferred.
- Knowledge of advanced instrumental maintenance & theory would be considered an asset.
- Ability for self-directed work & significant capacity for critical evaluation on trace organics study.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, communication skills as well as supportive character in a teamwork environment.
