What can you expect in this role?


Definity Insurance is continuing its build of an in-house legal team that will act in litigation arising from claims under its insurance policies.


  • Responsible for the ongoing administrative support such as opening and closing files, drafting correspondence and preparing pleadings, entering file details into software, requesting cheques, uploading documents received, and other tasks as assigned
  • Implement and maintain an effective diary system to aid in the organization of the Lawyers' practice
  • Maintain Lawyers' calendar and aid in the supervision their practice
  • Knowledge of service procedures and filing with the Court / Justice Services Online
  • Proficiency in scheduling examinations, mediations, examinations under oath, meetings, and various attendances and events at Court
  • Provide input into the procedures and practices with the Claims Litigation Unit
  • Work within a paperless environment, ensuring electronic filing is up to date
  • Perform other duties as required of a Litigation Assistant

What do you bring to the role?

  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience practicing insurance defence litigation in Ontario
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent document management skills with ability to utilize the various software systems such as TeamConnect and ACL
  • Great attention to detail along with proof reading skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities
  • High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information
  • Team player, adaptable to a changing environment
