Job purpose

Lead and oversee the team that delivers on ~$4B of Transmission Capital that is invested in partnership with First Nations communities on highly visible projects, many of which have been directed to Hydro One for completion by the Ontario government.


Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for strategic support to the Vice President, Strategic Projects and Partnerships in the development and execution of Transmission Capital projects including project level and overall program level reporting & metrics. This includes provision of senior leadership, resource support, and direction in establishing, sustaining and continuously improving the execution of the work program.
  • Assess project opportunities and determine the project execution methodology to match the risk profile of the works. Allocate personnel to develop and deliver the project.
  • Assess the effectiveness of implementation of the project execution plan and guide adjustments as deemed necessary to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Provide leadership and oversight in the development of business cases at various stages of the project lifecycle to secure funding releases required to deliver the project. This includes presenting to the Hydro One Board of Directors, subcommittees and the ELT.
  • Direct requirements for the multiskilled workforce established under a matrix reporting structure comprising internal Hydro One personnel and external consultants & contractors.
  • Actively oversee the development and deployment of externally facing material in support of the delivery of the project.

Attend and actively participate in external events including:
- in-person and virtual project public information sessions.
- meetings with provincial ministries, municipalities and other
- government agencies including updates and discussion with the IESO.
- discussions with directly impacted landowners.
- media releases and interviews.
- regulatory events, such as the OEB Leave to Construct proceedings and Cost of Service proceedings.

  • Working collaboratively across various lines of business, lead the negotiations for Partnership Agreements and Accommodation Agreements and ensure alignment with Hydro One's First Nation Equity Investment model and other corporate policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with Capital Portfolio Delivery Work Management:
  • provide input to Investment Planning in support of the one-to-five-year Investment Plan and multi
- year work program.
- ensure the effective development and execution of the Business Plan and Budget within Strategic Projects.

  • Define the project delivery strategy and tactical plan and ensure appropriate deployment within the pursuit plan for competitively bid transmission projects. Actively participate in the negotiation and establishment of the head contract with the client and any downstream agreements with vendors.
  • Responsible member of the organization's broader leadership team, accountable to contribute significantly to the overall reputation of Hydro One as a customer centric, future focused organization, a top employer and an exemplary corporate citizen committed to powering the province of Ontario.
  • Management of Subordinates:
  • Establish development plans and succession plans aligned with business and individual career progression objectives.
  • Direct and provide senior leadership to staff in the execution of their works.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure establishment of goals and objectives as it relates to individual contributions in support of the corporation's strategic objectives.
  • Ensure subordinates' compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements and all corporate policies and procedures and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the businesses. Establish and maintain a twoway working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work and continuous improvement opportunities.

  • University degree in engineering or a construction related field, college diploma in an industry related trade with equivalent relevant industry experience.
