Location

Position Overview


This position plays a key leadership role within the Recreation Services Leadership Team and is responsible for the implementation of recreation programming and partnerships across the city.

Maximizing participation, diversifying program mix, and supporting inclusiveness are all key drivers in this role.


Leading a dynamic staff team, this position will provide strategic and effective leadership within the portfolio of
Child, Youth and Families - Music and Theatre.



Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Services, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Oversight of a variety of recreational programs and partnerships including Music and Theatre Camps, Youth programming including music lessons, Burlington Student Theatre, and the Burlington Teen Tour Band.
  • Working within a community development framework for the provision and facilitation of recreation throughout the city.
  • Working in collaboration with a variety of partners for the delivery of recreation services throughout the city including boards, organizations and agencies.
  • Providing oversight in the development and implementation of all marketing and promotion related initiatives and campaigns as related to portfolio.
  • Responding to inquiries from public, staff and elected officials, including facilitating resolution of complex issues.
  • Coordinating requests for future enhancements and updates to programs and facilities from customers and partners as part of the budget process and through business cases.
  • Working in coordination with a variety of department teams including facility operations, marketing, business services, and customer service.
  • Supporting several department processes including space allocation and program planning at a leadership level.
  • Recruiting, training, coaching, supervising, and evaluating staff, both full time and part time.
  • Developing and fostering strategic alliances and partnerships to support program delivery, increase participation, and maximize revenue opportunities including the development of partnership agreements.
  • Developing and evaluating performance measures to meet business and customer needs, including participation, utilization rates, financial targets, and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and develop continuous improvement opportunities to enhance program delivery, customer service and risk management.
  • Coordinating and monitoring current budgets and maximize revenues within assigned area. When required, develop mitigation strategies to meet budget targets.
  • Developing policies, procedures and processes and ensure that they are effectively communicated and followed by all staff.
  • Liaise with external agencies and governing bodies to ensure that the City is meeting regulations and obligations. Ensure that all emergency and safety procedures are current, communicated and practiced to protect staff, program providers, vulnerable populations, participants and guests using programs and facilities.
  • Representing the department on corporate teams. May coordinate and oversee projects. Assume the duties of other supervisors in the unit during absences or as directed. May represent the Manager during absences.
  • Preparing reports for Council approval and participate in Committee and Council meetings as required.
