Purpose:


York University Microfabrication Facility (YMF), jointly supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) programme and the Lassonde School of Engineering, is one of the leading research facilities for micro/nano technologies in Canada.

The Facility consists of a Class 10,000 Microfabrication Cleanroom and an Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory, both of which are located on the Keele campus of York University.

Reporting to Lassonde's Director, Infrastructure, Planning & Business Operations, the YMF Manager is responsible for all the management of operations and maintenance of the York Microfabrication Facility.

The Manager brings current knowledge and future vision to transform the operations and function of the services to operate a sustainable facility.

The Manager researches and designs training activities using technologies of micro/nanofabrication through user training, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, infrastructure planning and upgrade, research processes design and verification, prototype testing, verification and metrology, the procurement and inventory of instrument parts, chemicals, and materials.


Education:


Master's degree in physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other engineering fields where micro/nanofabrication is part of the research and familiarity of this type of facility is required.

A PhD is preferred. Professional engineering experience or a certificate in P.Eng. is also preferred for relevant industrial experience and a fundamental knowledge in topics such as Engineering Law.


Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in micro/nanofabrication and experience in a micro/nanofabrication cleanroom. A minimum of two (2) years experience in managing micro/nanofabrication facilities, operation, and personnel.


Skills:

Knowledge

Knowledge and hands-on experience of a variety of microfabrication equipment and processes on sputter deposition, ebeam evaporator, UV mask aligner, PECVD-RIE.

Experience in performing research activities at the graduate level.
Knowledge and experience in budget planning.
Familiarity with procurement processes.

Familiarity with professional and administrative software including AutoCAD, LEdit, SolidWorks, Comsol, Microsoft Access, Power Automate, Power BI, Project, and Visio.

The level of education and P.Eng. preference shows relevant industrial experience and a fundamental knowledge in topics such as Engineering Law.

The level of education, along with the required years of experience will provide the YMF with the required skills to develop training materials, presentations, confirm health and safety requirements and certifications, and allow for troubleshooting and maintenance of the equipment.

Additional Notes:

Will work in Microfabrication lab that consists of a Class 10,000 Microfabrication Cleanroom and an Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory.

May have exposure to UV, chemicals, gases, in the event that engineering controls and protocols fail, which are the YMF Manager's responsibility.

May have occasional responsibility for lifting heavy weights, when setting up equipment/machinery and when supporting researchers with their work in the facility.

Compensation:


York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.

Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
