Description

Reporting to the Dean, Pilon School of Business (PSB), the Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the faculty, staff and students in a number of specified programs within the Faculty.

This includes leading the development, delivery and review of programs and supervision of teaching and learning processes within the Faculty to ensure quality and relevancy of program outcomes.

It also includes the planning and administration of resources and the development of industry partnerships and initiatives in collaboration with other departments within the Faculty and College.


The Associate Dean plays a key role in attracting and developing talent, creating an engaging work environment and managing performance to ensure faculty commitment to quality teaching, professional development and currency in their discipline.

He/she contributes to building a strong identity, positive reputation and a clear sense of direction of programs through educational objectives that are current with industry and community (including Program Advisory Committees and Applied Research projects), effective, relevant to student needs and consistent with the Faculty and College strategic direction.


The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the leadership team, faculty and staff, to advance our strategic priorities, support business innovation in the region.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Building a strong identity, positive reputation, and clear sense of mandate and direction for the School/Department and Faculty through the achievement of shared educational objectives that are current, effective, relevant to student needs and workplace expectations, as well as consistent with the strategic direction of the College and Faculty.
  • Strategic planning and actively participating and is instrumental in the development, implementation and leadership of the Faculty strategic plan as part of the academic planning process of the College.
  • Developing successful School strategies that respond to changes in student audience, government and industry.
  • Initiating and developing successful programs that build the desired School/Department/Faculty identity in a collaborative environment.
  • Establishing strategies to differentiate programs from other postsecondary institutions.
  • Providing academic leadership in the visioning, development, delivery, and ongoing review/modification of existing programs, to ensure quality and reflection of emerging needs, economy, technology changes, market and demographic influences, industry initiatives and employment standards.
  • Creating a plan for programs and courses in the area of responsibility consistent with the strategic direction of the College and Faculty
  • Identifying areas for growth and sets priorities for development.
  • Facilitating the development of a sense of accountability and commitment to shared responsibility among the faculty and staff of the programs, in particular with regard to the development and administration of programs, and the effective and efficient allocation of resources to address both immediate operational requirements and longerterm priorities of the programs.
  • Ensuring program and course outcomes are met, and are current through effective and collaborative leadership, including: supervision of the teaching and learning processes, effective market research and analysis, and maintenance of close contacts with business, industry and Program Advisory Committees(PACs).
  • Maintaining a high level of department performance through effective recruitment, selection, development, performance management and evaluation of fulltime and part time faculty and staff in their program cluster; in concert with HR.
  • Providing leadership in ensuring a high quality of teaching and faculty commitment to professional development and currency in their discipline, profession and industry.
  • Participating in other projects and initiatives as required.
