Our strategy, facilities, partnerships and resources are intentionally student-centred to foster dialogue, expression and open connections in support of the next generation of creative and cultural leaders.- The HR Advisor, Work Design + Compensation is responsible for the management of the University's compensation philosophy, excluded compensation and performance management framework, and the administration of union compensation.

The HR Advisor WDC shall partner with University leaders to ensure that all positions are developed and implemented in accordance with approved compensation plans and applicable Public Sector guidelines while maintaining internal equity.

The incumbent provides the University with valuable advisement on all Work Design and Compensation matters including the proposal of recommendations and strategies for correcting any existing compensation inequities.

Some Typical Duties Include:


  • Partners with all levels of administration to review, design, and implement all job roles within the University community, in a manner that is compliant with the relevant collective agreement compensation manuals or the excluded compensation framework.
  • Partners with CUPE representatives in the development of new positions or in the review of existing roles. Manages grievances pertaining to the exclusion of Administrative roles, in consultation with the Director, HR Advisory Services and the AVP, Human Resources + Privacy Officer.
  • Performs position classification reviews to recommend appropriate title and salary range based on an understanding of the nature, scope, and complexity of a position and relevant market pay data.
  • In collaboration with the Senior HR Advisor, Leadership + Organizational Development, guides the organization's performance review program including the provision of training on the annual review cycle to employees and managers. Monitors completion of annual and midcycle reviews while maintaining associated records.
  • Analyzes requests for pay changes and salary offers, and researches and prepares appropriate information for approvals, demonstrating awareness of potential impact of compensation decisions.
  • Liaises with the Post-Secondary Employers Association (PSEA) to provide compensation data, participate in salary surveys, submit requests for proposed compensation changes, and to seek guidance on compensation matters.
  • Takes a proactive approach to providing advice and guidance to university stakeholders on compensation policies and practices, with a focus on promoting sound compensation principles, and the understanding of the University's classification systems.
  • Conducts special compensation studies of salary and pay practices. Analyzes data, creates reports, conducts presentations, and develops recommendations as appropriate.
  • Supports data integrity by maintaining and auditing position and jobrelated information in compensation systems.
  • In partnership with the AVP, Human Resources + Privacy Officer, periodically reviews the excluded compensation philosophy to ensure that the tool remains current with provincial legislation and provincial employment standards. Provides advice to the Administrative Bargaining Team on matters relating to union compensation.
