    The Brock University Cheer Club is part of Brock University's Sport Club program. The Head Coach will plan and organize all phases of the cheerleading program. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, building, recruiting, and maintaining a competitive cheerleading program consistent with University and Department policies, practice planning, and working alongside the student executives with regards to social media, fundraising, overseeing the program's budget and equipment purchases and community outreach.

    Pay: Head Coach will receive a contract in the amount of $3000, food and travel allowance/per diem for competition as per Brock policy and $100 in Brock Cheer clothing. The Brock Cheer program will pay coach membership fees for both the Head Coach to the Provincial and National Cheerleading Federations along with any membership fees required by the International Cheer Union. The Brock Cheer program will purchase a parking pass for the Head Coach.

    The purpose of the Brock Team Cheer Head coach is to:

    Select a well balanced team through a fair and transparent selection process where the selection criteria is available to all prospective athletes Coach their respective athletes at practices held on campus (Brock University); Motivate and inspire their respective athletes; Train / coach required skills to athletes during practices that are held on campus; Hire/appoint assistant coaches, choreographers, etc. approved by the student executive and Brock Sports Club Coordinator and within the budget approved by the Brock Cheer executive Design / choreograph routines as required and/or connect with Brock Cheer alumni/past coaches to assist who are approved by the student executive, in ensuring continuity at the International level; Be knowledgeable in the International Cheer Union (ICU) rules and scoring system; and, Fulfill the responsibilities of the Brock Cheerleading Team Cheer Head Coach, as described in this document.

    OBJECTIVE

    Coaches' objectives are to:

    Contribute to Brock Cheer's optimal team performance; Provide an optimal Brock Student Athlete experience. Contribute towards the achievement of the Brock Cheer's strategic plan with respect to High Performance; Provide a safe and inclusive environment for the Brock Cheer Team at Local, Provincial, National and International Events; and Contribute towards the advancement of clean and ethical sport in Canada and globally.

    The Head coach will also serve as a tiebreaker if there is a split decision in what the executive team discusses.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Following are the qualifications deemed essential or preferable for the coaching position.

  • Must be a member in good standing with their Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization and Cheer Canada, and be free of any outstanding disciplinary issues and/or complaints;
  • A Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check;
  • Must adhere to, agree and sign the Coach Handbook, Code of Conduct and Coach Agreement within 30 days of appointment to the position;
  • Must take the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport training (True Sport Clean Untracked, at a minimum) and abide by policies set forth by the CCES and WADA (World Anti-Doping Association);
  • Must have demonstrated relevant experience at the Premier level of cheer; and current cheerleading coaching credentials such as ICU credentials, and/or Provincial certification at level 7 (if offered in their province/region) and complete any missing certifications as soon as possible.
  • Additional Training must be completed or in progress or the individual will be removed from their coaching position:

  • NCCP Making Headway in Sport (concussion training) or CATT;
  • NCCP Make Ethical Decisions and online evaluation;
  • Recognized Safe Sport Training (Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders training);
  • NCCP Anti-Racism; and,
  • Any other NCCP courses required by Brock University Clubs Coordinator: Brock Health & Safety, AODA, FIPPA
  • Demonstrable Assets

  • Demonstrated commitment to athletes/coaches and to creating an environment where they can compete to the best of their abilities;
  • Demonstrated commitment to clean and ethical sport;
  • Excellent leadership skills;
  • A sense of vision with the ability to encourage team building;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people (a team player);
  • Ability to interpret change that occurs and respond effectively (, crisis management); and,
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
