Basic Function:

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a Regulatory Advisor.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Product Safety & Regulatory, the Regulatory Advisor position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining knowledge of the legislation associated with lubricants, base, process oils and specialty products.

As well, providing expert advice and services in order to ensure our products are in compliance in Canada, US and other countries in the world where HF Sinclair products are sold.


Job Duties:


  • Coordinate R&D activities for various REACH programs (EU, UK, Korea, Turkey, China) and USA TSCA Inventory updates including all required reporting to various registration bodies
  • Coordinate R&D activities for specific country regulatory approvals on products and ensure legislated approvals are met
  • Work with Marketing, Research and Development (R&D) staff and Additive Suppliers to acquire information required for chemical inventory reporting
  • Conduct a regulatory review of new components proposed for formulations to ensure suitability for the regions required
  • Research and advise on new requirements for entering new markets or changing regulations
  • Interpret technical issues into clear and concise concepts
  • Provide input into regulatory strategic planning, meet timelines for new product launches, and ensure that regulatory requirements are met in support of existing commercial products
  • Respond to questions from customers and regulatory authorities including regulatory information required on customer questionnaires
  • Collaborate with the business teams on the identification and resolution of regulatory issues
  • Serve on appropriate industry task forces primarily through the industry associations
  • Adhere to all safety, quality (ISO 9001, IATF and environmental (ISO standards, procedures and initiatives. Ensure compliance and document and maintain records
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion


Experience:


  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience
  • Regulatory experience in a chemical or related industry is preferred

Education Level:


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science or related field of study

Required Skills:


  • Thorough understanding of government practices and workings, as well as related regulatory and legislative processes.=
  • Competent in interpreting and advising on regulatory legislation
  • Knowledge and experience in global chemical control laws, hazard communication requirements including US TSCA and REACH
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders whose needs, demands and expectations may be difficult to determine, and may change frequently, without notice
  • Strong communications skills (written and oral) are required to effectively position complex industry issues with external stakeholders as well as internal departments and facilities
  • Effective listening skills are a necessary complement to communications skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiar with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 1694 of registrations and approvals for pesticides (US EPA, Canadian PMRA) is preferred
  • Knowledge of International Committee on Harmonization published guidelines and other regulations pertaining to labelling in various jurisdictions where HF Sinclair Lubricants and Specialty products transacts is an asset
  • Knowledge of SAP EH&S module considered an asset

Work Conditions:


  • Work is located in Research and Development Wing at Sheridan Park. This is an office based role with infrequent business travel
  • Potential stress of dealing with project deadlines and regulatory investigations
