- Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;

- Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 413 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
- Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 1624 experiencing homelessness.

***Reporting to the Shelter Maintenance Supervisor, and indirectly to the Shelter Manager or designee, the Junior Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that the facility is safe and clean for the youth that utilize it. The incumbent will act as a role model for the youth that utilize the shelter.
The Kennedy House Youth Shelter is an emergency shelter in the City of Toronto for youth ages 16 to 24 that are homeless.
The typical length of stay in an emergency shelter is intended to be of short duration and the majority of clients use this type of shelter only once before returning to permanent housing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts daily check of all rooms in the main shelter and garage as well as daily grounds check including perimeter fencing
- Performs monthly roof top checks
- Perfomrs snow clearing and salting of all building exits and walkways, roads and paved areas
- Removes waste and recyclables from all areas of the facility
- Sorts and transports recyclables, hazardous wastes (paint, oil) to transfer station
- Performs cleanup of facility: sweep, mop, polish, refinish resilient floors, vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas, dust, wash walls, wipe surfaces
- Washes windows, interior and exterior
- Cleans all hallways, washrooms, kitchenettes, and other general rooms
- Performs heavy cleaning duties in dorms and other areas used by clients
- Cleans light fixtures and change bulbs and tubes
- Cleans facility vehicles: vacuum, wash and perform fluid level checks
- Completes inventories of tools, equipment, supplies and materials
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools including power lawn equipment and snow plows
- Performs repairs as required
- Assists with the completion of necessary reports and checklists related to the department
- Responds to any emergency situations regarding the physical plant, assess the situation and assist in problem resolution
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable legislation, and workplacespecific health and safety policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager or designate
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Building trades certificate or equivalent is considered an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in facility maintenance or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills knowledge and ability necessary to perform the tasks
- Knowledge the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is considered an asset
- Ability to multitask and plan and prioritize duties based on needs
- Valid Class G Driver's License and clean Driver's Abstract is required
- Current (within 6 months) Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided
- Broad awareness of other cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in working with and for diverse populations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to adhere to the principal and obligation of client confidentiality
- Maintain professional conduct, dress, language and behaviour at all times
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with staff, suppliers, inspectors and other persons involved with the facility and interact with varous stakeholders and departments.

- Possess a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
