Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Response, this position is responsible for carrying out the Pro-active Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, and Demand Maintenance of Structural systems at Toronto Pearson Airport.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance tasks employing a variety of skilled carpentry and related trades work on structures and buildings including, but not limited to work on doors, walls, ceilings and floors
  • Prepare condition inspection reports and reporting on work performed
  • Receive repair work requests from the Communication Centre
  • Design and build cabinets and other projects from drawings, sketches or through discussions with the requestor to understand specifications and details
  • Install, modify and repair office furniture and components
  • Identify and repair deficiencies in new phases of the terminals
  • Diagnose problems, repair and replace lowvoltage electric strikes including modifying steel door jambs to install different models of electric strikes
  • Carry out structural restorations and fabrications which may require alteration to space layouts or construction of new facilities
  • Provide onsite monitoring of structural maintenance repair work being performed by outside contractors by: escorting contracted work forces to and from job sites for security purposes as required and observing as required the work being done by contractor personnel and reporting abnormal conditions to management

Qualifications:


  • OSSGD Secondary School Diploma
  • Certificate of qualification as a Carpenter
  • 5 years' experience working in ICI construction/maintenance environment
  • Valid Ontario 'G' class Driver's license
  • Able to obtain a "D/A" level Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit within 30 days of appointment to the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of hardware installation and troubleshooting including repairs to new (unfamiliar) hardware
  • Knowledge of industry codes, GTAA standards and the layouts of the airport and terminals
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices and procedures
  • Strong understanding of building structural components, cabinet construction, lock and other door hardware operation and functions to effectively maintain, diagnose problems and make repairs to the above using the appropriate materials (plywood, hardwood, etc.), tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of the building codes, fire codes and regulations
  • Ability to handle and fabricate concrete, architectural metals, wood and other building materials; design and build from drawings, rough sketches and consulting from customers
  • Ability to operate special equipment genie lift, skyjack; consult and coordinate with GTAA departments (Communication Centre, RMU, etc.) contractors, and clients (e.g. Air Canada to schedule timely completion of maintenance and repairs)
  • Must have the ability to diagnose, replace, repair and install new lowvoltage electric strikes including modifying steel door jambs
  • Ability to work on a rotational shift basis (days, afternoons, midnights)
